The poem "Dead Star", written by H.O Santos a Filipino-American fiction, poetry and nonfiction writer.
He was born and raised in Tondo, Manila. This poem is inspired by the short story by Paz Marquez
Benitez. Its purpose is not only to give a perspective on the short story of Paz Marques Benitez, but also
to show the readers the result of not having the courage to say something important, and the
consequences of being late. The poem, Dead Stars, indicates love is unconditional, suffering, patience,
and even regret. I've determined that the author and I may have shared similar sentiments based on the
message inscribed in this poetry. The author must have thought that it had been far too long and that it
was past time for him to let go of the burden. Although, in my opinion, any literature that comes from
the maker's heart is what captivates viewers the most. It's honest with genuine feelings, something that
human viewers can feel, not because it's written more beautifully. What matters most about poetry is its
ability to convey stories and emotions, as well as make people feel.
Dead Stars is a poem that conveys regret for lost love, not because it ended but because it couldn't
begin. The poem is written int XXXX in a lyric type which indicates the author is expressing feelings with
3 stanzas each has quatrains. Which includes per stanza has different rhyming scheme; 1st stanza has a
format of A-B-C-D which pertains that the lines are not rhyme; 2nd stanza is an E-F-G-F which the
second and last lines are rhyme; And lastly, the 3rd stanza has a format of H-I-H-I which the first and
third lines are rhyme. And it is a idiom type of figurative language, it has set of words that gave more
than one meaning into it specifically in 2nd stanza that gives conflict to the readers of which is which the
correct meaning to it. The poem contains a message indirectly dedicated to a girl the author is in love
complete with symbolism and emotions.
Since the poem was released in XXXX, it's safe to assume that its structure would differ from that of
traditional poems. The poem is written in lyric form with a soft meter. The meter runs softly, and the
end words of each line continuously complement one another, despite the fact that each stanza has a
distinct rhyme scheme.
Even though the author never stated that this sentence was about his feelings for a woman-"If I still
think of her today, why didn't I tell her long ago?"-the arrangement of his lines appeared cliffhanger-yet-
satisfying at the same time. Throughout the poem, the author never mentions his affection for the
poem's receiver.
Metaphors are used extensively throughout the poem, from the title to the content. With the title Dead
Stars and the mention of Venus and Mars, the poem itself conjures up images of stars and the universe.
The planets referenced in the sentence "And worshipped Venus instead of Mars" are symbols of both
love and power. Mars signified masculinity and power, while venues represented love. Although these
symbols have a lot of meaning and contribute a lot to the poem's message, it's unlikely that most
readers will have trouble understanding them. The substance and message are still there, but the
experience may be lacking if some words are not properly understood. But in the other hand, despite
being relatively new, difficult and old words like sans and woe, which appear in the final verse, would be
difficult to understand, especially for young readers, and this would detract from the authenticity of the
experience by forcing readers to look up the meaning of the words first.
Dead Stars is a catchy poem with an intriguing title that introduces a topic that everyone can relate to.
The evaluation was performed in order to overcome the flaws I discovered during my first reading of it,
which largely concerned the metaphors used. Despite the uneven meter, Dead Stars successfully
delivered its message with a seamless cadence. Specific definitions of the metaphors employed are
required for individuals who will read the poem, but the feeling remains.
