INSTRUCTIONS:

 This is an individual assignment. Copying will result in an overall mark of 1/40 for
ALL identified individuals.
 Plagiarism is a sin in academia. Please quote relevant sources at the end of the
assignment.
 The due date (and time) is REALLY the due date (and time – irriswaririss ). Late
submissions will not be accepted, whatsoever.
 Assignment should be TYPED.
 Soft copies of assignments will not be graded. Submit the hard copy and ensure
you sign for it in the provided sign sheet.

ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS:

1. Draw and describe the phases that make up the network design and
implementation cycle. (6 marks)
2. You have been called in to design the network for Wangui & Kavindu Inc, an
international Audit and ICT consulting company. The network is supposed to cover
four floors of the building that they have recently purchased. There are four
divisions that this network should be divided into namely, ICT, Accounting,
Management and Executive. There are 80 network users spread out in the four
floors. Further members of the different divisions are also spread across the four
floors. The number of users in each division are as follows:
i. Accounts – 32 members
ii. ICT – 30 members
iii. Management – 12 members
iv. Executive – 8 members
You are required to design the network using the hierarchical network model.
a. Describe the different layers of the model. (3 marks)
b. Describe how you would design the network for this scenario, stating each
networking device that you would use and its purpose. Be specific by describing
how many users you will put on each floor (remember they should be mixed
among the four floors). Be specific on the type of network device(s) on each
floor and their purpose. (10 marks)
c. Describe how you will divide the network among the four divisions such that
messages can be broadcast to individual divisions without other divisions
reading them. (5 marks)
d. List the three Ps of ACLs. Hence, describe how you would use an ACL to deny
certain messages from the Executive that are destined for the management
division from being accessed by any other division. (6 marks)
e. Suppose you wish to configure the router at the Executive to read only
messages that are addressed to the executive, that are marked urgent, and that
have been signed from the management division. Draw a flowchart showing
how the ACL would ensure this happens. (8 marks)
f. Describe two tools that you can use in the network to verify TCP/IP connectivity.
