Welcome to this compilation of rules, intended to allow people to use their Horus Heresy armies with the 40k 8th Edition ruleset.

We’ve tried to keep the structure and arrangement of units and armies the same as they have been in previous versions of 30k, but using the
8ed rules system. If rules for a unit exist in 8ed, we’ve used them unchanged. When porting over rules from 7ed, we’ve tried to use equivalent
8ed rules wherever possible, and only write completely new material where necessary. We appreciate any input on what does and doesn’t work,
or what could be improved. This is intended to be a living document, updated regularly based on community playtesting.

No copyright infringement is intended to any of the many, many GW trademarks we’ve liberally used in this document. We’re all huge fans of
Warhammer 40k and 30k and the setting GW has created, and this is our attempt to help out the player base and provide a common structure
for Heresy players who want to play 8ed, at least until an official supplement is released. We make no claim to ownership over anything
included in this document.

Talons of the Emperor
This book contains all the datasheets that you will need to fight battles with your Talons of the Emperor, and the
rules for the weapons they can wield in battle. Each datasheet includes the characteristics profiles of the unit it
describes, as well as any wargear and special abilities it may have. Any abilities that are common to several units
are described below and referenced on the datasheets themselves.

Keywords
Throughout this book, you will come across a keyword that is within
angular brackets, specifically <Fealty> and <Forgeworld>. This is
shorthand for a keyword of your choosing, as described below.

<Fealty>
In games set in the Age of Darkness, your army will either fight on
the side of the loyalists or the Loyalists. When you build your army,
pick which you wish it to be. If you pick loyalist, then all units with
the <Fealty> keyword have this keyword changed to Loyalist. If
you pick traitor, then all units with the <Fealty> keyword have this
keyword changed to Traitor.

All units in your army must have the same allegiance. Some unique
characters or specific units can already have Loyalist or Traitor
printed on their datasheet, in which case they can only be taken in
armies with the matching allegiance.

Abilities
Sisters of Silence Detachments gain the following abilities.

LEFT HAND OF THE EMPEROR


If your army is Battle-forged, all Troops units in Talons of the Emperor
Detachments gain this ability. Such a unit that is within range of an
objective marker (as specified in the mission) controls the objective
marker even if there are more enemy models within range of that
objective marker. If an enemy unit within range of the same objective
marker has a similar ability, then the objective marker is controlled
by the player who has the most models within range of it as normal.

DAUGHTERS OF THE ABYSS


• This unit cannot be targeted or affected by psychic powers.
• When a Psychic test or a Deny the Witch test is taken for an
enemy model, subtract 1 from the total for each unit from your
army with this ability within 18" of that model (to a maximum of
-4).
• When resolving an attack made by a model in this unit against a
Psyker or Daemon unit, add 1 to that attacks wound roll.

Custodes List
To play Legio Custodes in Horus Heresy, you can use Codex: Adeptus
Custodes and Datasheets from Imperial Armour: Compendium
from 40 000 9th edition.

Custodes named Characters


You can add the appropriate named characters to your Adeptus
Custodes army, organized according to the Codex of the 9th edition
and supplemented by ForgeWord, using datasheets from the
corresponding section (see page 14). These are two unique heroes
that you can use in your battles on the Horus Heresy.

Custodes wargear
Adeptus Custodes models have access to the following wargear:
• One Adeptus Custodes Character model in the army can take
Arae-Shrike.
• One Custodian Guard from Custodian Guard unit can replace a
guardian spear or sentinel bladewith a solarite power gauntlet.

Core units within 6” of Jenetia Krole.

Null Field: All Psykers within 6” of this model suffer Perils of the Warp on any roll of doubles on a Psychic test.

Out of the Dark: You may set up Jenetia Krole, and up to three friendly Sisters of Silence units, anywhere on
the battlefield that is more than 9" away from any enemy models. In addition, if a friendly Sisters of Silence unit
is deployed outside of your deployment zone, subtract -1 from hit rolls made for enemy models when attacking that
unit in the Shooting phase until the start of your second turn.

Spectra-Field: Subtract -1 from hit rolls made for enemy models attacking Jenetia Krole in the Shooting phase.

Witch Hunter: Each time you select a target for this model, you can ignore the Look Out, Sir rule if the target is
a Psyker.
WARLORD Laurels of Victory: After deployment, but before the battle starts, you may redeploy 3 friendly units.

WARGEAR • The Oblivion Knight-Centura may replace its raptor blade with a master-crafted power axe, a paragon blade or a

• The Oblivion Knight-Centura may replace its bolt pistol with an archaeotech pistol, a hand flamer, a needle
pistol, or a plasma pistol.

Enhanced Voidsheen Cloak: The bearer has a 4+ invulnerable save . Each time an attack is made against the
bearer, subtract 1 from that attack's hit roll and wound roll .

Null Field: All Psykers within 6” of this model suffer Perils of the Warp on any roll of doubles on a Psychic test.

Knight-Commander: You may re-roll failed hit rolls of ‘1’ for friendly Sisters of Silence Core units within
6” of this model.

Out of the Dark: You may set up this model, and up to three friendly Sisters of Silence units, anywhere on
the battlefield that is more than 9" away from any enemy models. In addition, if a friendly Sisters of Silence unit

Seeker Cadre: At the start of the first battle round before the first turn begins, this unit, or the Sisters of Silence
Transport it is embarked within, can make a Normal Move of up to 6" as if it were your Movement phase. This unit
must end that move more than 9" away from any enemy models if both payers have units that can do this, the player
who is taking the first turn mnoves their units first.
