Ogl 343 Module 4 Team Project I - Videoconference

1) The team members discussed potential topics for their organization, with each member pitching two ideas - one related to social justice and one related to the environment. 2) The topics discussed were environmental conservation, reducing university costs, health education, plastic waste reduction, helping the homeless/those with drug addictions, workplace alcoholism, and animal adoption. 3) After discussing each member's ideas, the team ultimately decided to focus their organization on promoting animal adoption over buying due to connecting with Damon's passion for helping animals and sharing their own experiences with pet rescues.

Team Project I - Videoconference

This brainstorming session was an excellent success for us this week. I could not ask for

a better time than what we all had. Everyone came well prepared, and I started by giving my

ideas first. Environmental and Social Justice are the two subjects that interest me the most. The

reason is also the main focus, such as with environmental. With this, I wanted to focus on

something that would significantly impact our country and the world as we know it, as global

warming has been a rising issue for a long time now. As for Social Justice, I felt that it is

possible a focus more on the school system and not just a regular school system but the

university system. With Environmental, the issue that I wanted my organization to be concerned

with is the drought that the west, southwest, is experiencing here in the United States. This

would include innovation we can come up with to help preserve more water like collection

systems and how can we help fund the causes that are trying to help with the same thing. As for

Social Justice, I wanted my organization to focus on the cost that the university is charging and

how we can help lower it to allow all financial levels to attend school. It should not be a privilege

to participate if you want to learn. With the environmental issue I chose to focus on, there is a

way to help innovate to create a possible way to save more water and fundraising from

supporting the cause and those doing the same thing. Collaborate and execute likely innovations.

As for the Social Justice topic I chose, I think by fighting for more legal laws to help reduce the

cost or even giving a cap.

Plus, helping with more ways to help those who can afford to attend university. When it

comes to public campaigning, I found that both of my ideas shared the same process for

campaigning. This would be through social events, social media such as Facebook, TikTok, and

ads in the news. The mottos that I came up with for both is "no water, no future." Then the other

is, "Advancing knowledge and transforming lives more cost-effectively." Finally, the target

audience that I felt would fit the environmental topic would be anyone from the west, southwest

coast who lives and work in the states. And for the Social Justice topic, it would be students and

families who are not wealthy.

As we moved on, the next in line to present their ideas was Ryan. Ryan's central idea

focus is health and environmental. He chose health because of the lack of food education; he

wants an organization to help from the elementary level up on healthy eating habits. The idea is

to give everyone the chance to hold themselves more accountable for their eating habits and

tackle obesity. With Environmental, he wishes to have an organization that focuses on cleaning

up the plastic waste in our water systems. Plus, the stop of shipping plastic to other countries and

creating plastic waste sites.

Regarding the health topic, Ryan wants to create laws in the different school levels to

help kids learn better and choose healthier options. With the environmental issue, Ryan wants to

make laws to stop the pollution and start cleanup on what needs to be done. As for the

campaigning that would need to happen, he finds that social media would be his best bet to help

get the younger audience involved, this applying to both topics. He believes that getting involved

with the food reform public sector will support and work with public agencies to create

legislation. His primary target audience for both topics is youth for health and global for

environmental.

Tommy was the next to take the stand. For him, he found Social Justice and health was

his calling. He has a great connection in his current community in Arizona to help those who use

drugs and overdose along with the homeless population. With health, he wanted his organization

to help with physical fitness and truly focus on becoming the best version of yourself. The idea

of helping the homeless and those who overdose on drugs is to give them a second chance at life.

He wants to do this by having his organization help outreach, get legislation training for Narcan,

and benefits. Then with health, he wants his organization to host events and classes and give

people resources for meal prepping and workouts. His central campaigning platform is social

media. This would include a target audience of metropolitan business owners and those who live

in areas where drugs and homelessness are predominant. Tommy's chosen slogans are, "We are

people too," and "everyone fits in."

The final person to take the stage was Damon. He chose Social Justice and

Environmental (animals). He decided on social justice to have an organization that focuses on

alcoholism in the workplace and how to counteract it. With environmental, he wanted to have an

organization that promotes adoption and not buying of animals. The main reason for this is that

he wants to stop inhuman ways for these animals to live for breeding and the puppy mills that are

still to be prevented. As for alcoholism, this is caused by stress in the workplace, and Damon

wants his company to find a better solution than to allow others to turn to a bottle when times get

tough. Damon wants to campaign with social consultation, public legislation, and public health

agencies to help define alternatives in corporate culture for company policy. As well as social

adoption and a tax credit if you adopt instead of buying an animal. The target audience that his

focus is on is those who are looking to adopt and companies that need to examine their company

policy. The two mottos’ that Damon came up with are, "What are you drinking about?" and

"Paws for a cause."

As we concluded our ideas, it came to the decision-making time. This was hard for d for

us because we all felt each person had an excellent, compelling argument. At first, we began by

going through each of our topics to give a more personal reason for why we chose what we

chose. This helped us understand a bit more and allowed us to connect more. Then we almost

decided on health as the main one since two of our group members wanted to focus on

something similar. Still, around the last ten minutes of our video call, we decided we felt there

was much more care and compassion than we all felt for our animals that we wanted to go with

Damon's idea for helping adopt over buying. We connected to this and shared our own pet

stories. We each found out that our pets are rescues and felt the same for the cause Damon

wanted to fight. This determined our final choice, and we all were smiling in the end with delight

at our ability to deduct and come to that conclusion. The connection we made on a personal level

made all the difference for our final choice. If we had not had that connection, I'm not sure if we

all still would have agreed.
