Science 8 Third Quarter - Module 2 Changes in Matter: Simplified Melc-Based Budget of Lesson January 17 - 21, 2022

1. The document discusses changes in matter, including physical and chemical changes. Physical changes alter the appearance or form of matter without changing its chemical composition, while chemical changes create new substances. 2. It describes the six types of phase changes that matter undergoes: melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation, sublimation, and deposition. Temperature affects the arrangement and motion of particles in different phases of matter. 3. The lesson explains how to identify if a change is physical or chemical. An activity requires students to classify examples as physical or chemical changes and explain their reasoning. The document provides learning materials and assessments to help students understand changes in matter.

INTRODUCTION

Change is an important part of our lives. We cannot ignore these changes because they are
associated with growth, maturity and perception. Sometimes change can often be a difficult thing
for everyone to accept no matter how big or small. However, life without change can become
unchallenging and stagnant.

In chemistry, changes are classified into two categories physical and chemical changes. Let’s
find out more of this topic as we go through the lesson.

Recall your prior knowledge about the changes of matter. What are
the changes that occur based on the illustration?
CHANGES IN MATTER
There are two types of change in matter: physical change and chemical change.
Refer to pages 196-197 to understand this topic better.

Phase changes
The different phases of matter behave in such a way that their characteristics are physically affected
by the motion of the molecules and their intermolecular attractions. Read pages 208-210 to know the
different phase changes. Answer checkpoint and reflect upon questions on page 211.

Activity
Activity Title: Changes in Matter
A. Name the six ways the phases (state) of matter changes.

B. Identify the changes of matter whether Physical or Chemical Changes. Include a reason for each of
your answers. (Refer to the answer sheet of this module)

A. LET’S ORGANIZE (page 214)

Answer the Reflective Questions in Let’s Organize.

B. SCHOOLOGY QUIZ
Answer the Quiz being uploaded on Schoology. Just click the Quiz Title ”MATTER” . You may answer
it during your Asynchronous time in Science. The quiz must be answered not beyond January 31,
2022.

A. Summary of the Lesson

 Matter does not stay the same. It may undergo physical or chemical changes.
 A physical change is a change that can be seen or felt, but that does not involve the break
up of the particles in the reaction. A chemical change occurs when one or more substances
change into other materials.
B. Reflection

Change is inevitable. Without change, life is static and limited. Without

change, there isn’t growth.
Each year the calendar slips into its last pages. How do you change
yourself for the new year?
