On the auspicious occasion of Merry Christmas 2019, School of Hotel Management celebrated
Christmas cake mixing program on 8 December 2019 with faculty members, staff, students and
executives. Cake mixing is regarded as one of the most important events during Christmas. As per the
international trend, dried fruits and nuts remaining after summer are mixed together with wine and
spirits before one month of Christmas and kept for fermentation.
Fermented ingredients are then put into the cake mix and baked in traditional ovens and the resulting
cake is eaten and distributed to the near and dear ones during whole month of Christmas.
School of Hotel Management organized a “Personality Development Program” for the newly enrolled
students under IMI-BHM as a co-curricular activity from 17 November to 26 November, 2019. The
program was facilitated by London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Nepal which is an
accredited partner of Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA), Scotland. During the 10 days program,
different experts and intellectuals from the field of education were invited as resource persons. The
students were trained in communication skills, motivation techniques and leadership skills. A total of
60 students took part in the program and were awarded certificate of participation from LCCI Nepal.

CHINESE THEME RESTAURANT OPERATION BY BHM III SEMESTER
As a part of the curriculum, students of BHM-III semester, School of Hotel Management had recently hosted Chinese Theme Restaurant Operation from 5th to 7th
January 2020. The event focused on providing detailed knowledge and practical exposure within the kitchen and service area. Students were supervised by Chef Kedar
Silwal and Faculty of Food and Beverage Service, Mr.Sugam Tamrakar. During the event, the students were divided into three groups which included chefs, service
crews and the guests where the role of the students interchanged for three days. The students skillfully prepared meals under Chinese Cuisine and decorated the
restaurant area in the way that reflected the Chinese culture.
On the 5th January 2020, guardians and parents of semester VII were invited to discuss on the possible internship opportunities for the student in different countries,
especially in Sanya provenience, China. AITM has special agreement with Phoenix Education Consultancy and Hainan College of Vocation and Technique, China for this
purpose.
In the discussion program, a team from Phoenix Education Consultancy was invited to address the queries of parents and students. Apart from China, Mr. Basant P.
Joshi , Head of School gave information about internship opportunities in Thailand, Malaysia and Dubai. Mr. Joshi also highlighted on the importance, need and basic

Twenty students presented seminars on different aspects of biotechnology. The students’ presentations were interesting, informative and impressive. The seminar was
conducted by Mr. Hari Krishna Saiju, Head, Department of Biotechnology, AITM, in presence of Mr. Rabin Shrestha Deputy-Head, Department of Biotechnology, Senior
Lecturer Mr. Binod Mishra and Research Assistant Mr. Prithivi Jung Thapa. The Program was concluded with suggestions of the invited experts.

FINAL PROJECT WORK DEFENCE BY 8TH SEMESTER STUDENTS
The Final Project Work defence of 8th semester B. Tech. in Biotechnology students was arranged by Department of Biotechnology, AITM on 2nd and 3rd January 2020.
The Project Work carries 8-credits in B.Tech. in Biotechnology syllabus of Purbanchal University. Twenty students were involved in 7 different project works related to

PBL SOUTH ASIA: AITM FACULTIES ATTENDED REFLECTION SESSION OF NEPALESE PARTICIPANTS ON MUMBAI FACULTY TRAINING WORKSHOP
A faculty workshop was organized in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mumbai, India, from August 19 to 30, 2019 under “Problem Based Learning in South Asian
Universities” project and about seventy faculty and advanced student (senior Master and Ph.D.) participants from the partner universities in Europe, India, Nepal and
Bhutan participated in the workshop. All the participants from Nepal and Bhutan were faculty members, who will be playing vital roles in implementing/integrating the
“Problem Based Learning” pedagogy in courses in their institutions.
A reflection session of the Nepalese participants in Mumbai faculty training workshop was organized in Dinning Park restaurant, Baneshwar, Kathmandu on September
16, 2019. The objective of the program was to share thoughts and experiences on the Mumbai workshop among the Nepalese participants and discuss on the upcoming
PBL South Asia event in Bangalore. Nineteen of the twenty-one faculty participants of the Mumbai workshop from Nepal attended the reflection session. The four
Nepalese higher education institutions (HEIs) involved in the project presented their experiences and learnings from the Mumbai event separately through PowerPoint
presentations. Later in the program, preparations for the upcoming Bangalore event and the related issues were also discussed. The firsthand exposure of Nepalese
participants to PBL pedagogy in the Mumbai workshop was a real and unique experience for them. The expectations, challenges and learnings from the workshop were
mainly reflected in those presentations in the reflection session. The session was extremely useful for all the faculty participants to know other colleagues’ views,
understandings and experiences on PBL pedagogy.

NEF-CCN DEBATE COMPETITION ORGANIZED
Students’ debate competition is another activity of NEF-CCN colleges, which is organized every year. This year’s NEF-CCN inter-college debate competition was
organized at Asian Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) from December 6 to 9, 2019.

and fourth days and award distribution ceremony on the final day.

Mr. Monik KC of Little Angels’ (LA) College were declared as the first runner-up. Similarly, Mr. Nischal balami, Mr. Denish Lepcha and Ms. Alina Pandey were the winners
in Nepali category while Mr. Amrit Rijal, Mr. Suprim Khadka and Mr. Kushal Kafle of LA College were the first runner-up in this category. Mr. Sambid Pant of XA was the
best speaker while Mr. Monik KC of LA and Shrijan Raj Pandey of XA were the second best speakers in English category in the competition. Similarly, Mr. Nischal balami
and Mr. Denish Lepcha of XA were jointly declared as the second best speakers while and Ms. Alina Pandey from XA was declared as the 3rd speaker in Nepali category.
