Activity 2: What Can You Say?
This morning, we will unfold another
literary piece, but before that, we will
have an activity. I will divide you into
three groups. Each group should select
5 representatives. You will be given a
picture and all you have to do is
describe each picture in many
sentences as you can. The
representatives should form a line and
one by one they will write something
base on the picture. But to make this
more interesting, each representative
will only be given 15 seconds to write.

plague.

During his travel Oedipus kills Laius and

later comes across Thebes, without a king
and in a dire state. He solves the riddle of
the Sphinx, is made king, and marries
Jacosta, his mother.

Thebes is overcome by a plague, and the

citizens beg Oedipus to end it.

The blind prophet, Tiresias, is consulted,

and Oedipus provokes him into revealing
the murderer to be Oedipus. However
Oedipus denies this and accuses Creon of
bribing the prophet. Creon faces the
accusations and the chorus convinces
Oedipus to spare his life.

Creon returns to Thebes after visiting an

Oracle who has revealed that the only way
to end the plague is to rid the city of Laius'
murderer

Jacosta tells of a Prophecy she and Laius

received from an Oracle in which their son
would kill Laius and father children by
Jacosta. Oedipus is worried by this and
sends for the one survivor of the
encounter that ended Laius' life.
Oedipus tells Jacosta of a prophecy he
was once told and of events that
happened during his travels, and a
messenger from Corinth arrives to tell
Oedipus that his father has died, and
Oedipus is relieved by this information, but
still worried he might marry his mother.

The messenger, eager to put Oedipus at

ease, reveals that Oedipus was adopted
and that he was found exposed on a
mountain and given to him by a shepherd
from Laius' household who also happens
to be the witness from Lauis' death.

Jacosta, finally realizing the truth, begs

Oedipus to Cease his search, and flee's
into the palace, where she commit's
suicide.

The survivor/shepherd is forced by

Oedipus to reveal that Oedipus is the child
he was given by Jacosta and who was
sent to Corinth.

Oedipus, finally understanding, seeks out

Jacosta who had committed suicide. Upon
finding her dead the grief stricken Oedipus
plunges two of her golden pins into his
eyes, blinding himself.

Oedipus begs to be exiled and requests

that Creon look after his chlidren. He
agrees and Oedipus is led away.
C. UNDERTANDING
Activity 4: History Mapping

own father and married his own mother.

do that. All we have to do is accept whatever it

Is Oedipus Rex’s actions was justifiable?
Why or why not?
No, Ma’am.
