2. INSULATION RESISTANCE (Before HIPOT):

PROCEDURE:-
1. Cable Insulation resistance testing, Cable incoming and outgoing must be disconnect.
2. If not disconnected the test measurement will also include the characteristics of connected
circuit.
3. Insulation Resistance testing verifies that the insulating material, which makes up the
Insulating material (XLPE/PVC) are performing correctly.
4. A Insulation Resistance measuring instrument applies a known DC Voltage (as per IEC
standard). The DC voltage applies for 1 minute with different combination as requires (as per
below mentioned circuit).

PROCEDURE:

1. Connect the HV terminal from HV Diode to the cable.


2. While doing HIPOT test, there should be ENOUGH clearance between Cable, HV
terminal and Ground surface Contact.
3. Check earthling and connection of HI-POT Kit before starts test.
4. Start the apply the voltage increase the voltage slowly (500V per sec)
5. As per IEEE 95, the DC HIPOT only 70% of Power Frequency withstand voltage
should be apply for old Cables (There is a Depreciation factor).
6. Measure the leakage current by using leakage ammeter in the HIPOT kit or ensure
with external leakage clamp meter.
7. After the completion, the tested cable must be discharge with the earth rod.
