Earth Resistance, Step & Touch
Date: 20/10/2019 Test Procedure
Rev.0

1. Introduction:
The scope of this document is to provide guidance on testing earth resistance,
step & touch voltage on site with testing equipment (MPC 5/50 Getest from
Circutor-Spain).

2. Test Guidelines:

In order to preform the step & touch test in the substation, The points with high
chance to be effected during faults will be tested.
Around 15 points will be tested such as:
Main door entrance, outer fence, internal fences, main building entrance doors,
Storage area if exist, power transformer main body and overhead line gantry.

3. Test sitting:

Test Current: 5 to 50 A depending on substation ground resistance.

4. Test results:

Between 0 to 250 mv

5. Test Method:

A. Step Voltage Test:

1. Connect the measuring cables (yellow-green) to the Getest device voltage

terminals and from the other side to two weights, one cable for each weight.(See
figure No.1)
Note: Arrange the weights one meter apart from each other.

2. Connect the injection cables (two red cables):

One to the Getest Device voltage terminals with auxiliary earthing and another
cable to the earth be tested. (fig.1)
Note: Arrange the distance of earth to be tested 40 meter apart from auxiliary
earthing.

3. Connect the power supply cable and switch the device on.

4. Connect the phone and unit via wireless connection.

5. Turn the safety switch to the "Enabled" position.
6. Select step voltage mode in the phone and enter the test current
and the maximum fault current (value provided by the client).
7. By the phone Press "Fire" to begin the sequence.

8. Once the test is finished the results of the test will be displayed on the phone
results screen.
9. Repeat all steps for the next tested points.

10. Save the results and transfer it to a computer with a USB cable.

B. Contact Voltage (Touch Voltage) Test Method:

1. Connect the weights to each other using a safety jack cable.

2. Connect the measuring cables (yellow-green) to the Getest device voltage
terminals with weights and another cable to anything metallic in the wind turbine
building.(See figure No.2)
3. Connect the injection cables (two red cables):
One to the Getest Device voltage terminals with auxiliary earthing and another
cable to the earth be tested. (See figure No.2)
Note: Arrange the distance of earth to be tested 40 meter apart from auxiliary
earthing.
4. Connect the power supply cable and switch the device on.
5. Connect the phone and unit via wireless connection.
6. Turn the safety switch to the "Enabled" position.
7. Select contact voltage mode in the phone and enter the test current
And the maximum fault current (value provided by the client).
8. By the phone Press "Fire" to begin the sequence.
9. Once the test is finished the results of the test will be displayed on the phone
results screen.
10. Repeat all steps for the next tested points.
11. Save the results and transfer it to a computer with a USB cable.

C. Earth Resistance Test Method:

1. Connect the measuring cables (yellow-green) to the Getest voltage terminals with
earth pick and another cable to the earth be tested. (See figure No.3)
Note: Arrange the earth pick15 meter at least apart from the other.
2. Connect the injection cables (two red) to the Getest voltage terminals with
auxiliary earthing and another cable to the earth be tested. (See figure No.3)

Note: Arrange the distance between them 30 meter at least.

3. Connect the power supply cable and switch the device on.
4. Connect the phone and unit via wireless connection.
5. Turn the safety switch to the "Enabled" position.
6. Select resistance mode in the phone and enter the test current
7. By the phone Press "Fire" to begin the sequence.
8. Once the test is finished the results of the test will be displayed on the phone
results screen.
9. Repeat all steps for the next tested points.
10. Save the results and transfer it to a computer with a USB cable.
