Introduction of lesson:
Good morning student, this is the first time we meet, and we will be having a very
interesting lesson, can anyone recall the topic of that lesson? For Today’s lesson we will
have an equally if not more interesting lesson which will be based on capacitors.
Recall; students were were already thought,
However, today we will be looking at what is a capacitor, its uses, values and types.
This topic is very essential as it helps you to understand the basic of how the capacitor
applicable to electrical circuitry.
3
Application
Summary/Student Evaluation
o Some circuits will be drawn on the board and the students will be ask to calculate
the total capacitance of the circuits in their books, and also draw the equivalent
circuit.
o Then the teacher will go around and mark the answers.
o The teacher will then work out the questions on the board and draw the
equivalent circuit.
Conclusion
a. Next class we will be looking at the topics of capacitor color code and calculating
capacitance in series circuits so please read up before coming to the next class.
b. Teacher will mark register
c. The teacher will dismiss the class

What is a capacitor?
A Capacitor is a storage device to store electrical charges and release it as it is required
by the circuit. In this way, a capacitor is a little like a battery. Although they work in
completely different ways, capacitors and batteries both store electrical energy.
Capacitors are widely used in electronic circuits to perform variety of tasks, such as
smoothing, filtering, bypassing, energy storage etc.
Capacitor in Action
When you connect a capacitor to a source, here's what happens:
• The plate on the capacitor that attaches to the negative terminal of the battery
accepts electrons that the battery is producing.
6
• The plate on the capacitor that attaches to the positive terminal of the battery loses
electrons to the battery.
Applications
Energy storage
Timing
Coupling or DC Blocking
Decoupling/By-Pass Capacitors
Capacitor as a filter
