Lesson Plan: Evidence Base

Introduce Lesson -Students will learn how to identify the things they are doing well, so that
Topic/Focus: they continue to do those things consciously, and apply those
characteristics to areas that need improvement. When a student
believes they are struggling, they may believe that they are not doing
well at anything. This is very often a false assumption and this lesson will
look to remedy that notion.
Pre test
Communicate the Students will be able to determine what their strengths as learners are.
Lesson Objective:
Teach Content: The counselor will introduce why it is important to lean into strengths,
and to let students know that they all have strengths. Counselor will
briefly go over what a “strength-based approach” is. Counselor will
introduce the 8 domains from the Study Skills Assessment Questionnaire.

Practice Content: Students will take the Study Skills Assessment Questionnaire. After taking
the assessment students will break out into groups of 4 and discuss what
their highest areas were and their lowest.

Summarize/Close: Counselor will digest results with students and ask if there were any
surprises, and what their thoughts were on the test.

Follow-Up Plans

As this is an ongoing group, we will continue to evaluate as the group progresses, paying
special attention to the students who did not demonstrate mastery.
