Human Computer Interaction

The document discusses a lab activity on Abowd and Beale's interaction framework. The objectives are for students to understand, apply, and appreciate the framework. It instructs students to search for a technology and describe its purpose, controls, and feedback mechanisms. An example is given of an electrical muscle stimulator called PowerDot 2.0, which uses Bluetooth-enabled pods, electrode pads, and a smartphone app for control and feedback. Students will be assessed on their choice of technology, description, explanation using the framework, and presentation.

Figure 1 Powerdot 2.0

An electrical muscle stimulator (EMS), such as the PowerDot 2.0, can be used to reduce pain,
speed up muscle recovery, and improve athletic performance.PowerDot 2.0 is an NMES and
TENS device that has been cleared by the FDA. You can get almost 14 hours of electric muscle
stimulation in total, which can help to decrease exercise-induced pain and speed up our recovery
after strenuous CrossFit workouts and other activities.
What’s in the package, here are what to expect when having this product.
PowerDot 2.0 Duo, which features two pods instead of one, is an upgrade from PowerDot 2.0.
We may use it on both legs at the same time because of this feature.
In addition to the Bluetooth-enabled pods, the kit includes six electrode pads, cables to link the
pods to the electrode pads, a USB charging cable, and a carrying case to keep everything
together. PowerDot provides a feature-rich smartphone software that is available for both iOS
and Android that can be used to operate the hardware.
