Statistical Treatment of Data: Slovin's Formula

The document discusses various statistical methods used to analyze data collected from senior high school students regarding vaccination awareness. Slovin's formula was used to calculate sample size from the population. Frequency-percentage distribution was used to measure responses from male and female students. Weighted arithmetic mean was used to establish results by counting each respondent equally. A 4-point Likert scale was used to describe levels of awareness. T-tests were used to determine differences in awareness between student groups based on age and gender.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The gathered data by the researchers we’re statistically analyzed with the data requirement of the
study. The following statistical methods are used to assess the accurate interpretation of the
results of the data.

Slovin’s Formula

Using stratified random sampling, the researchers calculated the number of chosen senior

high school students among which Slovin 's Algorithm is best used for this sampling process. A

formula must be used to take into account confidence thresholds and margins of error if a survey

is obtained from a population. (Ellen, 2018).

N

Where:

n is the sample size

N is the population size

e is the margin of error

Frequency – Percentage Distribution

The distribution of percentage frequencies is a data display which specifies the

percentage of observations that occur for each classification of data points or data point. It is an

especially useful method for communicating the relative frequency of survey responses and other

information. (Lavrakas, 2011). Frequency statistics essentially count the number of instances of

each component, such as the number of men and women in the survey. (Korb, 2013).
The use of the frequency-percentage distribution will easily measure the equivalent

allocation for both male and female respondents, since this method of statistical analysis shows

both the frequency and the percentage of respondents' response to the current report. In a

diagram that is readily interpreted by many, this would also present the statistics, enabling

researchers to separate precise findings from all the details to be obtained.

P= X 100

Where:

P is the simple percentage

f is the frequency

n is the total number of respondents

Weighted Arithmetic Mean

Researchers ask a representative set of respondents the same question while undertaking

a survey. The researchers would use a weighted arithmetical mean to find the outcomes of the

survey if each respondent is counted independently and of the same significance. (Rodriguez,

2017).

The researchers use the Weighted Arithmetic Mean (WAM) statistical method to establish

and collect specific and applicable results in the current study. Weighted Arithmetic Mean

(WAM) is used to measure the level of awareness among senior high students about the types,

accessibility, benefits and side effects of vaccination.

∑fw
WAM =

Where:

WAM is the weighted arithmetic mean

∑ fw is the sum of the product of the frequency and weight

n is the total number of respondents

4-Point Likert Scale

A Likert Scale is simply a scale used to reflect the views and attitudes of individuals to a subject

or subject matter. The scale of Likert ranges from one extreme to another, such as "highly likely"

to "not at all possible." It uses psychometric measures to measure respondents' views, behaviors

and perceptions. (FormPlus, 2019).

The computed arithmetic mean is verbally described using the following:

4 3.26 - 4.00 Highly Aware (HA)

3 2.51 - 3.25 Aware (A)

2 1.76 – 2.50 Slightly Aware (SA)

1 1.00 – 1.75 Unaware (U)

T-test Independent
In order for the researchers to determine if there is a significant difference between level

of awareness of senior high students on vaccination and its effects and the demographic profile

of the respondents such as age and gender, T-test Independent is used.

The independent t-test, also known as the two sample t-tests, is an inferential statistical

test that decides whether there is a statistically significant difference between the means of two

different classes (Lund Research Ltd, 2018).
