NWN - Scenario-Based Assignment v2 (2021) - Lab 6

This document provides instructions for an individual assignment to design the network topology and IP addressing scheme for Boulevard Hotels network. Students are asked to: 1) Draw the network topology shown in Figure 1 using Cisco Packet Tracer. 2) Configure the network devices with the IP addressing scheme, using the given 192.168.200.0/24 address space. 3) Write a report justifying the network topology and IP addressing plan, referencing support materials. The report should be 10 pages or less following the specified guidelines. The assignment will be graded based on correctly implementing the network design in Packet Tracer and providing a well-written report that justifies the topology and IP addressing choices.

AICT004-3-2-NWN-Networks and Networking Individual Assignment

ASIA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION

AICT004-3-2-NWN (Networks and Networking)
Scenario-Based Assignment

This assignment contributes 20% of the final marks

Intake : UCDF2005
Submission Date: 20th Nov 2021 [11:59 pm]

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

 CLO3: Justify the topology and IP addressing plan based on the network design (A3,
PLO8)
Note: PLO8 – Personal Skills

SCENARIO

You are required to design and apply an IP addressing scheme for the topology shown for
Boulevard Hotels network in Figure 1. You will be given one class C block of IP addresses
that you must subnet and provide the IP addressing plan for the network. Using Packet Tracer,
you must first create the topology diagram of the network as shown in Figure 1. Once the
topology diagram is done, configure each device according to your proposed IP addressing
scheme. When the configuration is complete, use the appropriate commands to verify that the
network is working properly.

AICT004-3-2-NWN-Networks and Networking Individual Assignment

You are given the 192.168.200.0 address space to use in your network design. Prepare the
IPv4 addressing plan for this network following VLSM subnetting techniques.

(Note: Remember that the interfaces of routers also require IP addresses and are included in
the addressing scheme.)

Subnet / Network Number of Host

Kuala Lumpur (Wired LAN) 30
Kuala Lumpur (Wireles LAN) 90
Johor Bahru (Wired LAN) 10
Johor Bahru (Wireless LAN) 30
Penang (Wired LAN) 20
Penang (Wireless LAN) 40
Offsite LAN 8

**the remaining subnet requirements for WAN connection will be using public IPv4 addressing (/30)

Part A : Topology Design (10 Marks)

1. There are total of 3 branch routers, and 1 offsite router for backup. All router to router
connections are using Serial interfaces.
2. LAN connection in the 3 branches - Kuala Lumpur (KL), Johor Bahru (JB) and Penang
are using copper cables (with Fast Ethernet interfaces)
3. There are wireless LAN connection provided in KL, JB and Penang branch using WiFi
technology.
4. Connection from Offsite router to the servers are using fiber optic cables (with
Gigabit Ethernet interfaces)

Draw the topology diagram in Cisco Packet Tracer, following the specific requirements

Part B: Packet Tracer Configuration (30 Marks)

1. Perform basic configuration on Penang, JB, KL and Offsite routers to demonstrate the
following configuration skills:

 Basic router/switch configuration (hostname, banner motd, passwords etc.). Please

use “cisco” for all passwords.
 Static and Dynamic IPv4 Addressing
 Wireless configuration
 Static Routing

2. Verify the network configuration by using PING and Tracert command. Troubleshoot
the network if any of your attempt is unsuccessful (failed).

Part C: Report - Network Topology / IP Addressing (60 Marks)

Each student is required to provide an individual report to justify the network topology and IP
addressing scheme used in the network design. Relevant citation and referencing are to be used
to support the design.

Below are the proposed guidelines for the report:

Proposed Guidelines for the Report:

1.0 Introduction

2.0 Network Topology

- Justifications of the network topology used
o LAN topology
o WAN topology

3.0 IP Addressing Plan

- Justifications of the IP addressing and Subnetting scheme used
- IP addressing table

4.0 Conclusion
- Critical Evaluation (lesson learned) – reflections

5.0 References

Assignment Requirements

1. You are required to produce the work individually.

2. Your report must be typed using Microsoft Word with Times New Roman font size 12.
Expected length is not more than 10 pages. Report should be in 1.5 spacing.
3. The report has to be well presented and should be typed. Submission of reports that are
unprofessional in its outlook will not fare well when marks are allocated.
4. Your report must combine all the deliverables in one coherent document.
5. The report should have a one (1”) margin all around the page as illustrated below:
