Bizarre World of Fake Psychics

Think about these questions while watching the video.

1. Who do lots of people believe this nonsense? Explain the two principles the content
creator brings up.
40% of people believe that humans can possess psychic abilities. The creator tells
that if you´re one of those 40% get it psychic powers. The best roasts of reality
rooted in psychological manipulation. The first principle says that there are few
truths in predictions, for example astrology. It is very common that people do not
find anything strange about the horoscopes with which they identify. The second
principle of making people believe you´re psychic. The information is so
compelling that after you die, people will remember you for your predictions.

2. Nostradamus and his predictions. Why do they not work, or what is wrong with
them? Why do some people still believe them?
Prophecies never happen. They do not work because they are not statistical
predictions, people believe them because they always come with the promises to
relieve humanity and likewise the predictions allow people to believe that what
happens in the future will be terrifying. And they seem to be powerful promises.

3. What did the US military do? Why? Why is it damaging when governments invest in
the supernatural?
The United States government started a project called Stargate, which was a
government covert operation. With which they sought to create psychic soldiers.
Because Russia broadcast a video of a psychic act. It is harmful because they found
little or no evidence of paranormal abilities and it came at a high cost, estimated at
20 million dollars. This traumatized the generation and was humiliation for the US
military.
4. Who is Uri Geller? Who was James Randi? How did he unmask the pastor and Uri
Geller? (Jimmy Carson Show)

Uri Geller was an illusionist psychic. His powers consisted of bending spoons,
guessing and describing hidden images, and manipulating clocks at will.
James Randi was an illusionist magician known for exposing fraudulent
supernatural psychics.

Randy unmasked the pastor by revealing that it was not God speaking in his ear, but rather
a radio receiver in his ear. He also unmasked Geller, replaying one of his stunts on
television. Randy asked Carson not to let Geller touch the silverware and nothing
supernatural happened. This is why Geller affirmed that he failed in his act.

5. The dangers of the “harmless psychic powers”. Sylvia Browne and her “accurate”
predictions.
Sylvia Brown appeared in interviews where she demonstrated her ability to channel
the dead and communicate with them. According to the creator of the video, what
he was trying to do was a cold reading, which he used to convince people who had
conversations with their deceased. But this woman was a vulture of fame with
people wanting to know about their dead.

6. The Bretherians and the Heaven´s Gate cult.

The Bretherians are a spiritual movement who say that humans do not need food to
live, but can live on the energy of the universe and the sun.

7. Going down the rabbit hole, how does the idea of psychic powers get even worse
and more dangerous?
The danger is that these things become a means to believe what one wants and is a
distortion of reality. In addition, psychics and healers have their own healing, a
dangerous custom that leaves traditional medicine.

8. Why are celebrities to be blamed for the resurgence of psychics? What makes Tyler
Henry a dangerous scam?
Celebrities went to psychics and supported them to sell their supernatural
performances. These people gained fame on the television shows where they
performed their acts.
We will never see that Tyler Henry makes a mistake in his reading to celebrities, he
has access to his public personal information and has the means to obtain it. So he
manipulates people with his supposed psychic abilities.

2) Write an opinion essay. The essay should have an introductory paragraph (3-5lines), a
body paragraph (40-50 lines), and a conclusive one (10 lines). Follow the example bellow.

During your writing take this advice into consideration:

An introduction. Write a thesis statement and the reasons that support your opinion. Give
your readers a hook to engage them with the topic.
A thesis statement is a sentence in a paper or essay (in the opening paragraph) that
introduces the main topic to the reader. As one of the first things your reader sees, your
thesis statement is one of the most important sentences in your entire paper—but also one
of the hardest to write!

The main body. Break it into several paragraphs where you provide arguments and
supporting examples, statements, and facts.

A conclusion. When ending a paper, restate the main thesis and summarize the central
points of the essay.

The essay should talk about your position and beliefs about psychics according to the video
information. Example bellow.
