A Report is a written composition or, in other words, we can say it is a prepared talk about a
particular subject. It is a vivid expression of a personal experience on account of something heard,
seen, done, studied etc. meant to be published or broadcasted. A report is a brief account of an event
that has already taken place. The report helps in recording the events of importance that occur in our
day-to-day life. A report of an event includes one’s ideas, opinions and impressions about the event.
The most common example is the news reports we read in the newspapers, every day. Reports can
be of many types, such as
1. A newspaper report
2. A report about an event or function at school/institute/ organization
3. A report about an accident/happening that you have witnessed
4. A report about an enquiry or survey
• be factual and do not add any information on your own that may seem fictitious.
• write in indirect speech and preferably in passive voice.
• write in third person form and avoid using pronouns like I, me or you.
• avoid imposing your personal opinions and do not make any conclusions.
• answer the questions to ‘when’, ‘where’, ‘why’, ‘what’, ‘who’ and ‘how’.
Format of a Report
1. Headline
2. Byline (Name of the reporter)
3. Opening paragraph
4. Details (Next two paragraphs)
5. Conclusive statement
(It can either be a summary of the whole situation, a conclusion, condemnation, appeal or warning)
By line- Name of the person writing the report. It is generally given in the question. Remember, you
are not supposed to mention your personal details in your answer.
The opening paragraph (introduction) – It may include the '5 Ws' namely, WHAT, WHY,
WHEN, and WHERE along with WHO was invited as the chief guest.
The account of the event in detail- The proper sequence of events that occurred along with their
description. It is the main paragraph and can be split into two short paragraphs if required.
Conclusion- This will include a description of how the event ended. It may include quote excerpts
from the Chief Guest's speech or how did the event wind up.
By line- Name of the person writing the report along with the designation. It is generally given in the
question. Remember, you are not supposed to mention your personal details in your answer.
Place and date of reporting- It is generally not mentioned in a magazine report separately, but here,
it is.
Opening paragraph- It includes the expansion of the headline. It needs to be short as it is a general
overview of the report.
The account of the event in detail- It is generally written in two parts: First, complete account of
what happened in its chronological sequence (preferably) and second, the witness remarks.
Concluding paragraph- This will include the action that has been taken so far or that will be taken.
It is the last paragraph.

• Mention the place, date, time and other relevant facts about the event.
• Include information collected from the people around or affected by the event.
• Write the name of the reporter.
• Provide a suitable title/heading.
• Write in past tense.
• Write in reported speech and use passive form of expression.

ADULT LITERACY CAMP

An adult literacy camp was organized by Cultural Society Sunshine Public School, Nellore in the
school neighborhood yesterday extending educational options to those adults, who have lost the
opportunity and have crossed the age of formal education. The activities of the camp were carried
out by the cultural society of the school and there were a total of 25 volunteers.
The camp began with the welcome speech for the chief guest, Mrs. Kavita Naik, a renowned social
worker. 400 people were a part of the camp. They were divided into different groups in accordance
with their competencies.
They were taught the basics of being able to read and write. Free books and stationery is being
provided for quality education. All the arrangements including desks and blackboards were done in
advance.
Apart from educational needs, special care was devoted to hygiene and sanitation. They were taught
the basics of cleanliness like types of wastes and their management. Refreshments were also
provided to the participants. The immense enthusiasm and zeal in the people to learn was the main
driving factor.
The chief guest distributed the certificates of participation among the volunteers. The camp ended on
a positive note. There was an atmosphere of learning and growing together.

the welfare of animals by preventing cruelty to them. Recently you visited Mahatma Gandhi
Animal Care Home. You were pleasantly surprised to see the good treatment given to the

VISIT TO MAHATMA GANDHI ANIMAL CARE HOME

Animal Lovers Club was recently invited by the Mahatma Gandhi Animal Care Home for a visit
where an opportunity to oversee the working of the organization was given.
It is home to abandoned pets, rescued animals, and the ones injured on the streets. There were many
old animals as well. It was astounding to see the quality of care the animals are being given. They
have a family-like environment for them. This helps them to heal faster and stay happy.
The animal home has all the facilities ranging from a well- equipped medical room to a veterinary
surgeon. Regular check-ups of those unwell by a team of veterinary specialists are carried out.
The surroundings are animal-friendly as well. They are not being ruthlessly kept in cages. They have
green surroundings with enough space for them to play and nurture.
Mahatma Gandhi Animal Care Home is doing a mind-blowing job by understanding and fulfilling
the needs of those who can’t speak for themselves. The experience was an overwhelming one.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

GD Goenka School celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. On the
morning of August 14, 2020, our students presented hand-made greeting cards and tri-color flag
badges to the senior management functionaries of the school.
The cultural program at school commenced with everyone singing ‘Vande Mataram’ followed by
flag hoisting by the chief guest, Ms. Indu Bala Sharma, the District Magistrate.
The spirit of freedom and nationalism was well exhibited by the students as well as the teachers
through a spectrum of patriotic poems, speeches, quizzes on freedom fighter, songs, and dance.
Committed to the task of nation-building, both faculty and student teachers pledged to serve their
motherland through spreading education and serving the community. A presentation on the historical
evolution of the national flag of India was shown.
A documentary on the contribution of unsung heroes of Indian freedom struggle like Tirupur
Kumaran, Kamla Devi Chattopadhayay, and Khudiram Bose enlightened the audience.
A few of them spoke on the history and significance of the Independence Day and shed light on the
special highlight of celebrations this year
It ended with a speech by the principal on the topic, “What does freedom mean to me?” The
celebration concluded with the inspiring words of the principal madam, followed by the National
Anthem and the distribution of refreshments.

New Delhi, 2 July, 2021: Students of Guru Nanak Public School, Rajouri Garden participated in a
function to celebrate World Environment Day on 5th June at Vigyan Bhavan. It was also the 30th
anniversary of National Museum of Natural History. President of India, Pranab Mukherjee was the
Chief Guest. The other guests included Narain Meena, Minister of State for Environment, S
Raghupathy, Minister of State (Forests and Wildlife), Meena Gupta, Secretary, Ministry of
Environment and Forests and Sudhir Mittal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests.
The students presented ‘Prakriti Vandana’ a song and dance. An effective skit ‘Kahan gaya wo
dharti ka swarg’ was also presented, wherein experts from National Museum of Natural History
including Dr Naaz Rizvi and school teachers Jyoti Cheema and Rajvindra Kaur directed the students.
The song presentation prepared under the able guidance of Bhupinder Kaur, Inderjeet Kaur and S
Amritpal Singh forced the audience to introspect.
The School chairman, S Inder Singh and vice chairman, S Singh Ratra were also present.
The vote of thanks was proposed by the Director, National Museum of Natural History, Dr
Venugopal.
Q-5 A super specialty hospital was inaugurated in your town by the Health Minister. As a
reporter from The Hindu’, write a brief report on the same to be published in the newspaper.

New Delhi, 8 August 2021: ‘Swasthya Surabhi’, a super specialty hospital was inaugurated by Ram
Prakash Chaudhary, the Minister of State for Health, on Friday. The 400-bed hospital seemed to be
equipped with the most advanced and state of the art machines and equipment with the latest
infrastructure to back up exigencies. It employs internationally trained physician in the field of
emergency medicine. Fully equipped, advanced cardiac life support ambulances have been made
available round the clock. Besides having an in-house Blood Bank, its information system has been
linked to other major Blood Banks in the country to enable the right group of blood to be made
available at short notice.
The hospital covered an area of 8,000 square metres and the total expenditure in building the
hospital had come around thirty five crore rupees.
Addressing the people, Dr Bhavdekar, the Medical Superintendent reinforced the need for dedicated
and committed staff. He sincerely hoped that the hospital would provide the best health services to
the people at nominal cost.
A blood donation camp was also organized to mark the auspicious occasion. The authorities also
announced free treatment for the poor patients on every Sunday from 10 to 12 noon.
Q-6 You are Anurag/Anjali, a reporter with a national daily. You have heard that a multi-
story building near the main railway station has collapsed causing panic in the area. You rush
to site of the accident with your team. Write a report in 125-150 words mentioning the time
and the place of the accident, number of casualties, the cause of the accident and the rescue
operation conducted by the authorities.
Answer:
Jharkhand, 15 April, 2021: A 5-storeyed building collapsed near the main railway station area of
Samarpal District. The incident took place on the afternoon of 13th April.
Fortunately it was a Sunday, so not many people were present in the building. Yet, when it collapsed
it hurt the passer-by, claiming the lives of 10 people and injuring several. Locals quickly came into
action and rushed the victims to the hospital. The police, along with the special team looked for
more survivals under the debris but with no success.
On investigation it was found that building had illegally enlarged its covered area. The old pillars of
the building could not bear the burden of the new construction and gave way. On enquiring, the
builder said that the corporation charged handsome bribe for the construction. Thus, the corporation
had ignored the safety measures too. For the selfish motive of some, precious life of innocent people
was taken away.
