* Use appropriate graphs to represent data

Let Us Discover

Statistics is all about data. Presenting data effectively and efficiently is an art. You may
have uncovered many truths that are complex and need a long explanation while writing. This
is where the importance of presentation of data comes in. You have to present your findings
in such a way that the readers can go through quickly and understand each and every point
that you wanted to showcase. As time progressed and new and complex research started
happening, people realized the importance of the presentation of date top make sense of the
findings.
.
Define Data Presentation
Data presentation is defined as the process of suing various graphical formats to
visually represent the relationship between two or more data sets so that an informed decision
can be made based on them.

Types of Data Presentation

Broadly speaking, there are three (3) methods of data presentation:
A. Textual
B. Tabular
C. Diagrammatic/ Graphical

A. Textual Ways of Presenting Data

Out of the different methods of data presentation this is the simplest one. You just write your
findings in a coherent manner and your job is done. The demerit of this method is that one

has to read the whole text to get a clear picture. Yes, introduction, summary and conclusion
can help condense the information.
B. Tabular Ways of Data Presentation
To avoid the complexities involved in the textual way of data presentation, people use tables
and charts to present data. In this method, data is presented in rows and columns. Each row
and column have an attribute (name, sex, age etc).
C. Diagrammatic Presentation/ Graphical Presentation of Data
This kind of data presentation and analysis method says a lot with dramatically short
amounts of time.
1. Geometric Diagram. Involves shapes like a bar or circle.
- Simple Bar Diagram. Composed of rectangular bars. All
these bars have the same width and they are placed at an
equal distance from each other. The bars are placed on the
X- axis. The height or the length of the bars is used as the
means of measurement. So on the Y- axis, you have the
measurement relevant to the data.
- Pie diagram/ Pie charts is a circle that is subdivided or
partitioned to show the proportion of various components of
the data.
- Pictograms, uses pictures to present data.
- Line Diagram is used to show the trend of events with the
passage of time.
- Line Graph. A frequency diagram, often called a line chart
or a frequency polygon, shows the frequencies for different groups.
- An area chart is an extension of a line graph, where the area under the line is
filled in. The “lines” are actually a series of points, connected by line
segments
- A scatter plot (aka scatter chart, scatter graph) uses dots to represent values
for two different numeric variables. The position of each dot on the horizontal
and vertical axis indicates values for an individual data point. Scatter plots are
used to observe relationships between variables.
