This book will assist registrars preparing for the Physiology component of the Primary Exam of the
Australian and New Zealand College ofAnaesthetists (ANZCA). The book also contains useful
material for registrars preparing for primary exams in Surgery and Emergency Medicine.
The book’s 326 high quality A4-size pages and 13 chapters cover 148 major topics. Each topic is
organised into a question and answer format as used in the actual vivas in the exam. Numerous
line diagrams are included especially for the topics in the Chapters on the Cardiovascular System
and the Respiratory System. All areas of Physiology are covered and the topics are organised by
System. A chapter of Clinical Measurement topics is included as well. A series of self-assessment
short questions (with answers) is provided at the back of the book.
The information in the book is based on extensive successful experience in assisting registrars in
preparing for the Primary Anaesthetic exam since 1986. Topics were extensively selected from
the Question Lists in the ANZCA Examiner’s Reports and also from feedback from registrars as
to what questions were asked. Many major topics and questions are considered very important:
they are asked in exam after exam and the book aims to cover as many of these topics as possible.
But more than just questions: this book also has the answers!
