Detailed-Lesson-Plan (Graph)

This document outlines a math lesson plan on representing organized data using graphs. The lesson plan includes objectives, subject matter, procedures, and an assignment. The procedures section describes introducing the topic, conducting a student survey activity, analyzing sample graphs and charts, and having students apply what they've learned by organizing and graphing sample data sets. The goal is for students to be able to differentiate graphs, use appropriate graphs to represent given data, and understand the value of nature.

QUARTER 4

WEEK 4-5
Name: Jeanelyn C. Segotier Grade Level: Grade 7
Cooperating Teacher: Romy S. Liwagon,
EdD
Subject: MATH
Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key
concepts, uses and importance of Statistics,
data collection/gathering and the different
forms of data representation, measures of
central tendency, measures of variability, and
probability.
Performance Standard The learner is able to collect and organize data
systematically and compute accurately
measures of central tendency and variability
and apply these appropriately in data analysis
and interpretation in different fields.
Competency The learner uses appropriate graphs to
represent organized data: pie chart, bar graph,
line graph, histogram, and ogive. M7SP-IVd-
e-1
I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students can be able to:

a. differentiate the different graphs used to represent organized data.

b. use appropriate graphs to represent a given organized data: pie chart, bar graph, line
graph, histogram, and ogive.
c. Value the gift of nature around us.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

 Content: Graphs to represent organized data

 Reference/s: Teacher’s Guide (TG) in Math 7, pp. 50-60
 Materials: Pictures, Graphs, Charts, Powerpoint Presentation
III. PROCEDURES

A. DAILY ROUTINES
1. Prayer
All students stand
May I request everybody to stand up for our prayer? May I up. A student will
call on _____ to lead the prayer? lead the prayer.

AMEN.

2. Greetings
Good morning
Good morning students. ma’am.

3. Checking of Attendance
Yes ma’am
Is everyone in the room now?
Okay very good!

B. REVIEW

Before we start to our new lesson this morning, do we have Yes ma’am
any assignments on our previous lesson?

Students pass their

Let’s have a recap in our last lesson, so what was our topic? hand
Anyone?
Our topic last
meeting was all
about the types of
graphs and charts
ma'am.
Okay. Can you give me an example of those?
Bar Graph/chart, Pie
Chart, Line Graph/Chart,
Histogram Chart and
many more ma'am.
Okay very good! Since you have already learned a lot in our
last topic let's proceed.
C. MOTIVATION

This time, we will have a SURVEY AND GRAPH. I want

you to think of a question you would like to survey on your
fellow classmates. For example, You might like to ask what
was their favorite animal is out of a dog, cat, chicken, pig or
monkey. I will give you 10 minutes to walk around the
classroom quizzing each other and you need to record tha
data that you have been gathered.
Once you have collected enough data, you need to represents
your results by drawing a bar graph and you need to create
labels above each bar. Yes ma’am.

Is that clear class?

Okay time is up, let me take a pictures of your outputs. A

job well done class.

D. ACTIVITY
Last week, we learned the different graphs and all these
graphs used in displaying data.
They differ on their usage ma'am.

QUESTION: How are these graphs differ?

Yes Very Good! Anyone else? Do you have any additional

ideas?

Look at the data below and answer the question on a Students will start
separate sheet. answering the
YEAR 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 question.

Number of Copies 265 270 285 310 290

(in thousands)

Question: What do you think is the appropriate graph for

this data? Justify your answer.

Okay, are you done class? Please pass your papers.

E. ANALYSIS
Consider the following charts and graphs and answer the
questions that follow:
Graphs and charts are visuals that
show relationships between data
and are intended to display the
data in a way that is easy to
understand and remember. People
often use graphs and charts to
demonstrate trends, patterns and
relationships between sets of
1. What information can we get from each of the above data.
charts or graphs? Discuss each chart or graph.
Graphs and charts condense large
amounts of information into easy-
to-understand formats that clearly
and effectively communicate
important points.

2. Do they present the same information?

A chart is a graphical
representation of data, in which
"the data is represented by
symbols, such as bars in a bar
3. Describe each of the charts/graphs. What do you think are chart, lines in a line chart, or
some uses of each of the charts or graphs? slices in a pie chart". A chart can
represent tabular numeric data,
functions or some kinds of
quality structure and provides
different info.

F. ABSTRACTION
A histogram is a graphical representation showing a visual
impression of the distribution of data. A histogram consists
of tabular frequencies, shown as adjacent rectangles, erected
over intervals. The height of a rectangle is also equal to the
frequency.

histo/5214822-eng.htm

A pie chart is a circle divided into sectors proportional to

the frequencies. It shows how a part of something relates to
the whole. It is important to define what the whole
represents.

A bar graph is like a histogram except that its bars are

separated. This uses parallel bars, either horizontal or
vertical, to represent counts for several categories. One bar
is used for each category with the length of the bar
representing the count for that one category.

A line graph shows trends in data clearly. This displays data

which are collected over a period of time to show how the
data change at regular intervals.

G. APPLICATION
Organize the following data and present using appropriate
graph or chart. Explain why you are using such graph/chart
in presenting your data.

a. The data below shows the population [in thousands] of a

certain city.

Year
1975 1980 1985 1990 1995 2000 2005 2010
Population in thousand
65 78 80 81 82 86 90 120

b. The following data indicates the scores of 30 students

who took the qualifying examination for mathematics
challenge.
35, 60, 45, 56, 54, 20, 65, 80, 70, 34, 32

90, 95, 70, 24, 11, 70, 65, 70, 45, 32, 70

45, 55, 76, 77, 16, 92, 88, 86, 78, 54, 19

H. ASSIGNMENT
Directions: Study the following scenarios and identify the
appropriate graph to be used. Justify your answer.

1. You are the president in your class and your teacher asked
you to check the attendance of your classmates by subjects
or by period that day. To know how many students are
present every subject, you decided to display it in a graph.

What appropriate graph will you use?
