SPICES Worksheet 2021 Write in Your Last Name - First Name and SPICE
For the purposes of the Worksheet, you should research an experience of your choice that takes place outside
of the classroom. It can be a program you join or a project that you completely design yourself. Please be
specific! “Internship” or “Study Abroad” is not specific enough. You should be researching opportunities: Answers
like “Internship in Finance and Accounting at PayPal” or “CIEE Summer STEM and Society in Yucatan, Mexico”
demonstrate that you’ve looked for opportunities that interest you – one of the goals of this course!
When all of your experiences are finalized by Week 7, you will pick a variety of experiences to form your
Experience Plan. Remember that experiences can be in the form of Honors courses, contracts, and independent
studies, an Honors pre-approved experience such as a special program, or an outside of the classroom
experience. We recommend that you develop these experiences by utilizing Peer Coach meetings, Counselor
Office Hours, and attending Peer Coach Experience Presentations.
Personal, Intellectual, and Professional Goals Statement (it’s ok if this changes later):
*Example: Major in Public Health, pursue undergraduate research experiences in infectious diseases
at UTSA and at an NSF-REU, and apply to a Public Health master's program so that I can work in the
future at the CDC
My goal is to graduate with my bachelors in digital communication with a gpa of at least 3.5
1. Please describe what you’ll do during the experience (2-3 sentences, 10 points).
I will be volunteering at a soup kitchen and helping those in need. I also would be donating canned foods as
well to help the cause
2. What existing skills, experiences, and areas of knowledge will you draw on to approach this experience?
(2-3 sentences, 10 points):
I’ve done something like this before so I know a little of what to expect. Mainly just being able to interact with
a lot of people and using teamwork.
3. What do you anticipate will be new for you during this experience? What might be the toughest part
about this experience? (2-3 sentences, 10 points):
Really the people I will meet in the process, again I’ve done something like this in the past for a church.
4. Pick 2 CAPACITIES Learning Outcomes that you will encounter during this experience and describe how
the experience might address them. CAPACITIES and definitions are located in Blackboard and on Page 3
of this document. (2-3 sentences each, 10 points each).
Capacity 1: Guidance: I will be giving people guidance on how to give back to the community, and to also help
the ones in need.
Capacity 2: Communicating effectively: I will need to be able to communicate effectively with not only the
people I’m helping, but also those I will be working with.
5. Finally, how do you expect this experience to connect to your Professional, Intellectual, or Personal
goals? (2-3 sentences, 20 points):
This would be a more personal goal as this is a personal choice to give back to my community and help out
where I can. Also, for me at least my goal isn’t to make professional connecting I just want to help those in
need.
