● Submit your answer in google classroom

1. A doctor ordered 4 separate blood tests to measure a patient’s total blood cholesterol
levels. The test results were
245, 235, 220, and 210
Find the mean of the blood cholesterol level. (solution in this problem was discussed
in during discussion, interpret the result – in paragraph)
Answer:
The given are: 245, 235, 220, 210
Solution: We need to add all of the given and then divide the result with the number
of the numbers
245+235+220+210= 910
We have 4 givens so the result will be divided into 4
910/4 = 227.5
The Patient's mean of the blood cholesterol level is 227.5

2. Find the median of the data in the following lists.

a. 14, 27, 3, 82, 64, 34, 8, 51
Answer:
Given: 3, 8, 14, 27, 34, 51, 64, 82
Solution : We compute the median by taking the mean of the two middlemost
numbers because the given has an even number. However, the numbers
should be arranged from the smallest to the largest. Thus,
We take the number 27 and 34 and add it
27+34= 61 and then we divide it in two
61/2= 30.5
The median is 30.5
b. 21.3, 37.4, 11.6, 82.5, 17.2
Answer:
Given: 11.6, 17.2, 21.3, 36.4, 82.5
Since the given is odd, we just need to arrange the given from smallest to
largest and pick the center number which is 21.3
The median is: 21.3

3. In the given table, it shows Janet’s summer course grades. Use the weighted mean
formula to find Janet’s GPA for the spring semester. Round to the nearest hundredths.

COURSE COURSE GRADE COURSE UNITS

Biology A 4
Statistics B 3
Business C 3
Psychology F 2
CAD D 2

Many colleges use the 4 point Grading System

A = 4, B = 3, C = 1, D = 2, F = 5
Answer:
Solution: We need to multiply the course unit with the grading system and then divide
it with the product of the course grade.
Course Grade: 4+3+1+2+5 = 15
(4x4)+(3x3)+(1x3)+(5x2)+(2x2) = 2.8
15
Janet’s GPA for spring semester is 2.8

4. Find the mean of the given data below

A frequency distribution

Observed Event Frequency

Number of laptop computers, x Number of households, f, with x laptop
computers

0 5
1 12
2 14
3 3
4 2
5 3
6 0
7 1
40 total

The blue part indicates that there are 14 households with 2 laptop computers.
Answer:
x̄ = 5+12+14+3+2+3+0+1 = 40 = 40 = 5
8 8
mean: 5

5. A housing division consists of 45 homes. The following frequency distribution shows

the number of homes in the subdivision that are two-bedroom homes, the number
that are there-bedroom homes, the number that are four-bedroom homes, and the
number that are five-bedroom homes. Find the mean number of bedrooms for the 45
homes.
Observed event Frequency
Number of bedrooms, x Number of homes with x bedrooms

2 5
3 25
4 10
5 5
45 total

Answer:
x̄ = 2x5+3x25+4x10+5x5
= 10+75+40+25 = 150
150
We need to find the total of bedrooms
150/45 = 3.3
Mean: 3.3

6. ACADEMY AWARDS: The following table displays the ages of male actors when they
starred in their Oscar-winning Best Actor performances.
Ages of Best Male Actor Award Recipients,
Academy Awards, 1980-2015

40 42 37 76 39 53 45 36 62 43 51
32
42 54 52 37 38 32 45 60 46 40 36
47

29 43 47 38 45 50 48 60 43 58 46
33

Find the mean, median and mode for the data in the table. Round to the nearest
tenth.

7. In your own words how do you differentiate the different measures of central
tendency, the mean, median and mode?
Answer:
A data set's mean is calculated by adding all of the values together. After that, the
sum is divided by the number of values in the data set.
When a data collection contains values that are somewhat evenly dispersed with no
unusually high or low values, the mean is a good indicator of the average. Thas te hint
that we need to use mean

For not using mean data measured on ordinal scales, the mean is often an incorrect
measure of average. Ordinal data is categorized, with a greater score indicating a
higher or better rank than a lower score.

8. What is the difference of the formula in standard deviation in terms of population and
sampling?
Answer:
The standard deviation is a measurement for comparing the dispersion of two or more
data sets. If you were creating a new company product and gave 100 people four
options, the standard deviation would be the number of persons who chose Product
1, Product 2, Product 3, and Product 4. The standard deviation is calculated by finding
the mean, figuring the variance, and then taking the square root of the variance.

9. The tallest man for whom there is irrefutable evidence was Robert Pershing Wadlow.
On June 27, 1940 was 8 ft 11.1 in. tall. The shortest man for whom there is reliable
evidence is Chandra Bahadur Dangi. On February 26 2012, he was 21.5 in. tall. What is
the range of their height?
10. A student has the following quiz scores: 5, 8, 16, 17, 18, 20. Find the standard
deviation for this population of quiz scores.
Answer:
A. Find the mean
5, 8, 16, 17, 18, 20 = 84
6
B. for each number in the set, subtract the mean and square the result
(5-4)² + (8-84)² + (16-84)² + (17-84)² + (18-84)² + (20-84)² = 29589

C. Then add all of the squares together and find the mean of the squares
29589 = 4931.5
6
D. Find Square of the second mean
√4931.5 = 70.2

11. A consumer testing agency has tested the strengths of 3 brands of 1/8 – inch rope. The
results of the tests are shown in the following table. According to the sample test
results, which company produces 1/8 – inch rope for which the breaking point has the
smallest standard deviation?
Table:
Company Breaking point of ⅛- inch rope in pounds
Trustworthy 122, 141, 151, 114, 108, 149, 125
Brand X 128, 127, 148, 164, 97, 109, 137
NeverSnap 112, 121, 138, 134, 139, 135

12. Find the mode of the data in the following lists

a. 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 8
Answer
To find the mode we just need to look for the repeating given number, which in this
set it is the number 3, 4 and 5
The mode of this set is: 3, 4 and 5

b. 12, 34, 12, 71, 48, 93, 71

Answer
