LABORATORY EXERCISE NO. 4
TISSUES

I. INTRODUCTION
A tissue is a group of cells with similar structure and function, plus the extracellular substance
surrounding them.

II. ENUMERATE AND BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THE 4 TISSUE TYPES IN THE HUMAN BODY.

The Four Tissue Types are epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue and nervous tissue.
Epithelial tissue covers the body surfaces and forms glands that are derived developmentally from
body surfaces. Unlike the other tissues, Connective tissue is separated from each other by the
abundant extracellular matrix. It is a primary tissue type that makes up the majority of the organs
in the body. It has various characteristics that can be used to identify different organs. Muscle
tissue is composed of specialized cells that have the ability to extend or contract in order to
generate movement in the body. It can be classified into three main groups: skeletal muscle tissue,
cardiac muscle tissue, and smooth muscle tissue. Nervous tissue can be found in the brain, spinal
cord, and nerves. Nervous tissue is responsible for coordinating and controlling activities in the
body. It stimulates muscle contraction, creates an awareness of the environment, and plays a
major role in emotions, memory, and reasoning.
III. ILLUSTRATE AN EXAMPLE OF THE SPECIFIED TISSUES BELOW USING OUR MAIN E-BOOK OR

nervous system.

_true_ 4. Cardiac muscle is found only in the heart.

_false_ 5. Loose connective tissue has fibers that are tightly woven among themselves.
