What’s More

Low Academic Performance of SHS STEM Students in General Chemistry 2

One of the major issues that bother students today is their academic performance.
Poor academic performance of students is a reflection of the problems and challenges facing
the educational system today. As we observe, poor academic performance of students are
mostly in mathematics and sciences related subjects. This study focuses in poor academic
performance of students in General Chemistry 2. Chemistry is a prerequisite to all courses in
medicine and related field, all engineering courses, pharmacy and many others that are
considered prestigious by the society. This means that there will be a low number of
admissions in them, which will certainly affect the development of the country.

Writing Exercise: Make your own Research Hypothesis

Null Hypothesis : There is no significant difference between face-to-face learning method

and modular learning methods towards student’s academic performance in General
Chemistry 2.

Alternative Hypothesis: There is a significant difference between face-to-face learning

method and modular learning methods towards student’s academic performance in General
Chemistry 2.
What’s More

Writing Exercise: Make your own Statement of the Problem.

Major Problem: this study aims to investigate the root causes of low academic performance
of SHS-STEM students towards General Chemistry 2.

Specific Problem: Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What are the root causes of low academic performance of SHS-STEM students in
General Chemistry 2?
2. How does Posting of Online Video Tutorial (Facebook, Youtube and other platforms),
Webinar, and Practice Online Teaching Method ( Zoom or G-Meet) contributed to
student’s academic performance?

What’s More

Writing Exercise: Writing a statement on the Significance or Importance of the Study.

Significance of the Study

Beneficiaries should be given much considerations in the research. The

findings of the study will be beneficial to the following:

Students. The student’s will manage their time to study and explore General

Che,istry 2. They will also develop their reading skills and comprehension towards problem

solving.

Teachers. The teachers will able to facilitate learners through online

discussion in order for the students to know the topic better and deeper.

Family. The family members will able to teach their children or they will be

able to assist and guide the learners at home.

School. The school will be acknowledge for high academic performance of

students towards General Chemistry 2.

Community. The community will be productive and safe this pandemic.

What’s More

Writing Exercise: On the Scope and Limitation of the Study.

Scope and Delimitation

The study focuses on the effects of Modular Learning Towards Students Academic

Performance. The participants are the Grade 12 STEM Students of Pangantucan National

High School. Pangantucan National High School has a population of 2,224 learners and 74

faculty and staff. Pangantucan National High School offers Accountancy and Business

Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Science, Technology,

Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), General Academic Strand (GAS) for academic,

Electrical Installation and Management (EIM), Shielded Metal Arc and Welding (SMAW)

and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) for vocational courses. It is a public

school located at Decolores Village, Poblacion, Pangantucan, Bukidnon.

track that focus in the field of sciences, mathematics and technology.

Modular Learning. This refers to alternative teaching method with the use of printed

materials and modules.
