Swot analysis of Nokia

The SWOT of Nokia discusses the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities
threats of Nokia which is one of the leading mobile handset manufacturer in
the industry. Nokia lost a lot of market share to Samsung since the
introduction of android. Nokia tried to compete with its own Symbian OS but it
failed badly.

In 2014, Microsoft purchased Nokia and launched its own Lumia handsets

along with select handsets of Nokia phones. However, in May 2016,  sold its
feature phone handsets (including Nokia brand) to Foxconn. Foxconn is
relaunching Nokia in 2016. Microsoft will continue with Lumia handsets and
Microsoft OS which are in partnership Acer Alcatel. Nokia is supposed to
relaunch with Android OS.

Strengths in the SWOT analysis of Nokia

 Experience – 142 year of history for Nokia – Nokia has a history behind it
and it was one of the top brands selling in the market before the launch
of Android Or IOS Smartphones.
 User friendliness – Till date Nokia is remembered with fondness because
it was the first mobile phone for many people and it was very user
friendly. It was durable too.

The weaknesses of Nokia

1. Slow reaction to the competition

2. Poorly Designed Smartphones
3. Low performance of Smartphones
4. Poor After-Sale-Service
5. Low Sensitivity to Industrial Changes

Nokia has also some weaknesses for which it has been suffering in the
technology sector. The first weakness is that it is slow to react to the
competition. In the growing marketplace, they are very slow to take
an initiative to be more competitive in this sector. Also, they have not
taken the competitions created by small companies in the field. The
second weakness is the low sensitivity to industrial changes.

The Opportunities for Nokia

1. Ever growing Market

2. Growing Demand for Smartphones
3. Development of Underdeveloped Countries
4. Adaptation of Android

As other companies do, Nokia also has many opportunities to grow their
business further. As we considered the mobile phone segment of Nokia
mostly, we will be talking about the opportunities of this segment as well.
The topmost opportunity for Nokia is that the smartphone market is ever-
growing. The smartphone market is growing vastly day by day. So, there
will always be big opportunities to have a large market to sell the products.
The second weakness is related to the first one. Third, the adaptation of the
Android operating system in the place of Symbian can give it more
successful. And finally, the demand for smartphones is at the edge.

The Threats for Nokia

1. Stronger Competitors
2. iPhone’s Popularity
3. Samsung and other Competitors
4. New Entrants
