SUMMARY:
 As the Social Weather Station (SWS) survey found that we Filipinos think that the teenage pregnancy nowadays is the “most
important problem of women today’ in the Philippines this is as of November 2020. The Commission of Population and
Development has noted that the alarming rise in teenage pregnancies has been increasing 7% in recent years. At the end of
202, the PopCom reported that 70,755 families were led by minor. They project that this number will rise up to 133,265 by
the end of this year 2021.

DISCUSSIONS:
Teenage and minors nowadays continue to have difficulty in accessing birth control services because of legal barriers
and stigma. With the new gathered data, 59% of Filipinos believed that early adolescent pregnancy was the most important
problem. A landslide number compared to the next most important problems: physical violence at 11% and unexpected
pregnancy at 11%. This alarming problem for our country will have a lot of disadvantages which can bothered the country
like having a threat to the country’s economic growth and may result in poor health outcomes, this also contracting the STDs
(Sexually transmitted diseases). With this type of problem which has encountered by the country this will be very risky in
national and local to all especially teens which they will be a higher risk for pregnancy – related health issues like high blood
pressure (preeclampsia) and its complications than average mothers. Risks for babies also which can be a premature birth
and low birth weight.
The Philippine government have already making an address to this problem. The government is targeting to have
more adolescent – friendly health facilities after the Department of Health identified nationwide in September 2019. There are
also 3 bills spending in Congress that would cater to the prevention of teen pregnancies and the social protection of the
mothers. State and non- government advocates are pushing for the bills, as they would allow young people and minors to
have better access to birth control services. The newest is that President Rodrigo Duterte has declared the prevention of
teenage pregnancies as a “national priority”. Under Executive Order (EO) 141 issued on June 25, Duterte stressed the need to
implement measures that will address the root causes of the rising number of adolescent pregnancies. “The State shall
mobilize existing coordinative and legal mechanisms related to the prevention of adolescent pregnancies, and to strengthen
the adolescent’s capacity to make autonomous and informed decisions about their reproductive and sexual health by
ensuring access to comprehensive sexuality education and reproductive health and rights services,”

NURSING THEORY
THEORY OF OBSTETRICS
Modern obstetrics is faced with a serious paradox. Obstetric practice is becoming increasingly interventionist based
on empirical evidence but without a theoretical basis for such intervention. Whereas obstetric models of perinatal death show that
mortality declines exponentially with increasing gestational duration, temporal increases in medically indicated labour induction and
cesarean delivery have resulted in rising rates of preterm birth and declining rates of post term birth. The fetuses at risk approach
are a causal model that brings coherence to the various perinatal phenomena. Under this formulation, pregnancy complications
(such as preeclampsia), labour induction/cesarean delivery, birth, revealed small-for-gestational age and death show coherent
patterns of incidence. The fetuses at risk formulation also provide a theoretical justification for medically indicated early delivery, the
cornerstone of modern obstetrics. It permits a conceptualization of the number needed to treat ( as low as 2 for emergency
caesarean delivery in preventing perinatal death given placental abruption and fetal bradycardia) and a calculation of the marginal
number needed to treat ( the number of additional medically indicated labour inductions/caesarean deliveries required to prevent
one perinatal death).
