Bumi Manusia is an Indonesian historical biographical drama film produced by Falcon


Pictures, directed by Hanung Bramantyo and written by Salman Aristo. Bumi Manusia film
premiered on August 15, 2019, with a duration of 180 minutes. This film is played by great
players, such as :

This film became one of the highest grossing films of 2019 with over 1.3 million viewers. In

The film Bumi Manusia tells the story of a Javanese youth named Minke who studies at a
school for Europeans, HBS.

Minke's real name is Tirto Adhi Soerjo. Minke falls in love with Annelies who is Nyai
Ontosoroh's son. However, Nyai Ontosoroh was the mistress of the Dutchman, Mellema. Nyai
Ontosoroh's position was looked down upon.

On the other hand, the meeting with Nyai Ontosoroh actually opened Minke's view of the
European world. Nyai Ontosoroh showed resistance to oppression which amazed Minke.

Nyai Ontosoroh's resistance began to show when Annelies' custody status was challenged by
the colonial court. Minke and Annelies relationship also received rejection from various parties.
One of them is Minke's father who is a regent. Minke and Annelies also have to deal with the
laws of the colonial nation while fighting for their love.

In our opinion, Bumi Manusia directed by Hanung Bramantyo is very good and is a very
brave film showing all forms of oppression and struggles of the Javanese people in defending
justice and the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. Of all the films that have been directed
by Hanung Bramantyo, such as the film Kartini ,Habibie & Ainun, etc., Hanung always raises
interesting themes and stories, even willing if his films become a public conversation because of
their tragic and dramatic stories.

In terms of cinematography, Hanung's efforts to present the situation of life during


colonialism were quite successful. And various scenes played by professional actors added to the
impression and made the story more lively. This film has an advantage because its challenging
plot can make the audience tense while watching.

We highly recommend watching this film, because it has a very interesting and exciting story
that makes the audience not bored when they see this film. When you have free time to relax we
recommend watching this film because the duration is quite long, which is around 3 hours. And
for people who like old-fashioned or historical vibes, this film is also suitable for viewing.
