So, let us see how smart teacher works, the smart teacher will implement the 21st century skill into
their students, as it focused more on processes rather than the content and as a result such skill
development will have to be infused into the classroom instruction. For example, within the skill of
critical thinking, students should be given opportunities to make a judgment and reach decision
because, for active adults, one must possess such valuable, real-world skill. And this requires
students to synthesize information, draw conclusion, and reflect on the experience. Classroom
instruction that fosters such critical thinking requires teamwork and collaborating with peers-
sometime with those in other countries via electronic media.
Next, smart teacher works with technology enhanced instruction, as it is customized to the student’s
abilities which can be delivered through interactive e-learning literacy interventions rather than a
traditional textbook. For example, considering the situation that we are in right now student
nowadays familiar with the learning website for example like Google Classroom where we have this
comment section and the student able to make the threaded electronic discussion forums to
encourage students to exchange ideas about topic. We also have Google meet and zoom, the
platform for the teacher to teach the students via online. And for us, science students, since we
cannot go to the laboratory, so we do have this website called PHET which is the interactive
simulations where the students can experience simulation or real-life virtual lab.
Next, we will go to the how hardworking teacher implement their strategies on students. 1st it is
direct instruction. This is teacher directed teaching method where the instruction is guided and
precisely for the learner to know the content and skills that need to be learned and performed. Do
you know what subjects that direct instruction implements on? The most obvious one is
mathematics. You cannot do the calculation work without the teacher show it to you first.
2nd is cooperative learning. In the typical school setting, high achieving students continually receive
rewards and are motivated to learn whereas low achieving students continually experience failure.
The idea of cooperative learning is to change the traditional structure by reducing competition and
increasing cooperation among students. Jigsaw strategy is the perfect example for cooperative
learning. This is due to in the jigsaw activity, pretend that a class is divided into heterogeneous
groups all five to six students. One expert’s students will be assigned into a group where he or she
will teach their fellow team members within their expertise. In my opinion, this teacher needs to
extra effort identifying the excellent students to be placed in a group that needs help.
Lastly, to improve student’s grade, school holds variety of additional academic program. For
example, tuition or Weekend Academic Program or example of another name is Model Pecutan
Perperiksaan. From these events, teachers can get an idea of student performance after the learning
session and correct those weaknesses immediately. That is all from me, I will pass to the next
presenter.
