RL RLC Load 222

The document describes using Simulink to simulate series RLC and RL loads connected to a three-phase power supply. It summarizes the blocks used, including a three-phase source, measurement blocks, load blocks, and scopes. Simulations of a series RLC load and series RL load are performed to obtain the voltage-current characteristics. Power factor is also calculated for each load using additional blocks.

AIM:

a) Simulate the following types of loads with 3Ф balanced power supply and obtain the V-I
characteristic for this load:
 Series RLC Load.
 Series RL Load.
b) Find out the power factor with respect to the above load
THEORY:
Simulink, developed by MathWorks, is a graphical programming environment for modelling,
simulating and analyzing multidomain dynamical systems. Its primary interface is a graphical
block diagramming tool and a customizable set of block libraries. In simple word Simulink is used
to simulate various circuit without physically implementing it. It helps us in getting desired output
by varying the input parameter. In Simulink drag and drop of different blocks are used to make a
circuit.
BLOCKS USED:
1. Three-Phase Source - The Three-Phase Source block implements a balanced three-
phase voltage source with an internal R-L impedance. The three voltage sources are
connected in Y with a neutral connection that can be internally grounded or made
accessible.
2. Three-Phase V-I Measurement - The Three-Phase V-I Measurement block is used to
measure instantaneous three-phase voltages and currents in a circuit. When connected in
series with three-phase elements, it returns the three phase-to-ground or phase-to-phase
peak voltages and currents.
3. Three-Phase Series RLC/RL Load - The Three-Phase Series RLC/RL Load block
implements a three-phase balanced load as a series combination of RLC elements. The
active and reactive powers absorbed by the load are proportional to the square of the
applied voltage.
4. Active & Reactive Power - The Active & Reactive Power block measures the active
power P and reactive power Q associated with a periodic voltage-current pair that can
contain harmonics.
5. Subsystem - A subsystem is a set of blocks that can be replace with a single Subsystem
block.
6. Scope – The Scope block displays its input with respect to simulation time. The Scope
block can have multiple axes. The Scope allows you to adjust the amount of time and the
range of input values displayed.
7. Powergui - The powergui block opens a graphical user interface (GUI) that displays
steady-state values of measured current and voltages as well as all state variables
(inductor currents and capacitor voltages). The Powergui block allows to modify the
initial states in order to start the simulation from any initial conditions.
