NARRATIVE REPORT ON GULAYAN SA PAARALAN PROGRAM


SCHOOL YEAR 2020-2021

I. INTRODUCTION
Gulayan sa Paaralan Program is an activity implemented by the Department of
Education in support to address malnutrition and hunger mitigation initiatives of the
government. This program primarily aims to promote food security in school and
communities through self-help food production and values among learners, and appreciation
of agriculture as a life support system.

In accordance to DepEd Memorandum (DM) No. 293, s. 2007, Malusac Elementary


School establish a school garden to serve as the main source of vegetables for
supplementary feeding, specifically School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP). There are
various kinds of vegetables that are planted in our school garden such as tomatoes, squash,
red and green pepper, eggplant, bitter gourd, and other leafy vegetables. On the other hand,
learners were trained to grow vegetables in their backyard using available materials they
can find, they were also assigned to observed the agronomic analysis of the vegetable plants
for proper fertilizer management, water management, weeding management, pest and
disease control measures. Proper land preparation, soil sterilization, seed sowing and
transplanting were also taught to them.

The Gulayan sa Paaralan Program inculcate the values of good health and nutrition,
industry, love of labor and caring for others not only to the pupils but also among teachers.

Due to limited space and flooding, our school


adopted Urban Gardening where vegetables are
grown in containers such as pots, cans, and
boxes.

IV. UPCOMING PLANS/ACTIVITIES

• Continue on the gardening and managerial system in maintaining the project.


• Encourages the learners in caring and maintaining the project.
• Created compost pit and dump bio-gradable waste and animal manure in order to
have natural fertilizer.
• Identify different variety of vegetables, fruit bearing tress and medicinal plants
based on considerable and available factors like the soil, weather condition, and
area.
