PACKAGING SPECIFICATION

Specifications for packaging means how we are going to pack the products maintain in the form of
packaging specification this is printable, has master data and number ranges.

The above mentioned is the packaging specification, our product is a water bottle (Product = content)
what is the content with the packaging specification is water boatel, and here various levels we are
executing the packaging

Level 1:- in this level we have wrapped 12 bottles in the wrapping sheet

What is the wrapping paper? Auxiliary material

Level 2:- After packing that we pack 12 bottles into a carton box (main packaging material)
Level 3:- We place 12 carton boxes in pallet.

This is also main packaging material.

Therefore there is some specification how we are going to pack it

Normally this is divided into various parts.

Header level

 We see administrative data and determination procedure through condition techniques.


 I want to determine packaging specification automatically into transaction we use condition
techniques that is at header level.

CONTENT

 Either it’s a product or another packaging specification or subordinate packaging specification,


 In the above pic we have maintained various levels.

ELEMENT GROUP

 If we see here there is a terminology called ELEMENT GROUP

 Within the element packaging material and work step is there


 Therefore “PACKAGING SPECIFICATION + WORK STEP = ELEMENT “

In the Next level


Packaging material is carton box and work step is “with hands we are closing the carton box” that entire
thing is an element.

Next level

Pallet is a packaging material and placing the carton box on the pallet is the work step.
 Means: - At every level we use element, Element is a combination of Pack mat + Work step.
 We club together these elements, one or more elements into an element group.
 The element group is reusable thing.
 Work step is also reusable
 Element group also has number range
 To define the levels what kind of level it is, we use level type
 We need to tell the system that the Element is a combination of auxiliary pack material and
work step or Main Packaging material and Work step , we will define this in element type level

Configuration
Go to EWM system
We maintain number ranges for Element group, work step and packaging specification, these are
reusable things so we have some number ranges
Fill the work step and element group and we know that this is printable version so we need to assign a
form name (SAP Pri-defined Form name),

Document MS [ ] Document Object [ ], if any of the document management is integrated to


our Pack speck we can use the fields above.

Save Determination Analysis [/]:- Determination analysis if we want to save i.e. against some
applications we trigger the packaging specification with some condition procedures that is going to be
determined in the application.

Change Document [/]:- anybody changing, we need change document to know who is changing

Grouping of the packaging specification


Nr Pack Spec [ ]

 In the previous node we maintain number rang for work step, element group number ranges
separate
 Coming to packaging specification we maintain number range at pack specification group
 We have Level set [ ] set of levels
 One EWM to another EWM we can share this packaging specification not ERP in that case what
kind of time zone you want to take or what kind of packaging specification you are using there
as a source system or target system

SAVE
Transaction to create packaging specification is

Easy Access -------- Master data ----Packaging specification

Create new one


Select packaging specification group and enter

You will get the above screen

Now click on display as above

You will get packaging specification area

The selected one is the header area and this header area we use determination procedure
Org Data: - you will see who is created when is created

We maintain rounding rules, demand quantity we integrate with APO module and work on it.

You will see content


The selected one is content

Select the above


You will get product as above

Subordinate packaging specification


As of now header and content will be pack speck as below what about the level

We need to maintain the levels as well

 We maintain the level manually


 In packaging specification group we maintain the level sets (Set of levels) then automatically
levels will come
We see element group in the level

Now we define the structure of packaging specifications in the configurations IMG --Master Data
New entries

Available for input or quantity means entering the quantity or set to 1


If you want to use HU type auxiliary we are not using

Suppose in the number of levels maintained in packaging specification and you want to delete one of
the levels then there will be an option to delete it , in order to restrict the deletion we use the below
option

And bellow that icon is nothing but display icon there is no impact with this
Similarly we maintain main pack material

Now Define level set

New entries

Fill the required field as bellow


Select the line item and double click on the Assign level types

New Entries
You see First level is MAL1 and second level is MAL2

Now go to

Level set not yet assigned for our packaging specification

Fill the Level Set


We assigned level set

Now we see the transaction


Select go to details as bellow

You see that levels are there; these levels came through level set that level set we assigned for
packaging specification rule but there are no elements

Elements will be defined by element type

Levels are defined by level types

Now we create element types


Here we maintain auxiliary or main packaging material

Deletion allowed or not we maintain here

SAVE

Now come back to Define level set


As we have maintained levels in level set we should maintain element in levels

Here we can maintain multiple elements, therefore single level also we can maintain multiple elements

 This auxiliary is some part in one group and carton box is in some part of another group we go
with different element,
 Same person is doing both the activities means we go with the single level
 Similarly we do it for second level also

Again come to pack speck

You can see elements in the bellow screen


At each element type we want to allow specific packaging material type, in auxiliary we want to use
only auxiliary element and in main element we will use only main pack material.

Now We do some assignment of packaging material

NEW ENTRIES

As we have maintained packaging material to element, what about work step


New Entries

SAVE
We need to restrict relevant work step for packaging material type

Depend on the packaging material work step will be changing

Now go to maintain pack speck


We put the product
When ever we are creating packaging specification automatically one element group will create

See below 513 is creating


If we maintain separate master data it is possible to reuse this, and is going to store in database

Next fill target quantity

You can give pack material here


Double click on the selected one Element
Fill the element group bellow

Fill the packaging material as bellow


Now go to second level and click on it and fill Target quantity

Double click on element and fill the pack material


If you see the product for each product it is using one auxiliary material

10 products we will pack separately so there is HU marked

If you see below there is no HU marked


Here HU check is there and we want to activate it

If you try to activate it, It will not allow because there is no condition record maintained at pack speck

Selected one is in condition records


One standard is there 0IBD:- inbound delivery

“Supply chain unit”, “product” and “from where you are acquiring” these are the fields bellow
You will find vendor in inbound delivery notification  partner tab

You will find Supply chain unit in assignment of warehouse number

After filling the field now activate and see

EXERCISE

1) Create inbound delivery ECC


2) Create inbound delivery EWM
3) Go to follow on functions pack

You see as we have maintained in second level target quantity 10 the above selected quintiles
for 1st material is 10, 10,10,5 for total 35 quantity.
We use several elements into a element group, element group is reusable thing and work step is
also a reusable thing, those are having number ranges, here if we discuss about the packaging
specification, 3 kinds of packaging specification 1) packaging specification number 2) for the
element group 3) work step
We maintain the level set and assign to packaging specification group, whenever we are going
to create packaging specification with reference to packaging specification group automatically
That level set will be populated into our packaging specification. Without level set it is possible
to create the packaging specification, some option is there yard level, yard product, yard
subordinate packaging etc. we created pack speck for one of the product with some condition
technique automatically that created one handling unit now where we maintain the condition
technique and what is the logic behind it today we will see.

Catalog of the fields which we are using to trigger packaging specification.


What are the fields are available to determining packaging specification
We create condition Tables with different fields within the condition table fields we maintain
any value, that is nothing but a record, say for example one condition table is our school class 6
one of the field, if we maintain class 6 some 85 that is a condition record

If I want records as “less than or equal to 20” then the mentioned records will come, this is
condition record structured within the SAP , we maintain some condition fields, condition tables, with
table fields if we maintain any value for the table field that is nothing but a record. If all the records
satisfy that object will be determined into our application that is the logic within the sap.

What are the fields available to determine the packaging specification?


If you see there are different fields available like order type, carrier, application, product, warehouse
process type, etc etc.. also there. The above are the available fields; however some custom fields also
possible.

Now define condition tables

With the list of fields it is possible to create the condition table

SAPIBD01:- this is decided table however it is possible to create new one depending on the requirement
If you see left side connectable fields are there and right side condition table fields are there, you can
see Supply chain unit, Ship from, Product these are the fields there in condition table.

Now access sequence


Access sequence 0IBD is the standard one it is accessing the table

It is accessing the table as above


Within the above table bellow tables are there

With the access sequence we are accessing the record; we need to pull the record into our application
that is the job of access sequence. Sequential access of condition records within a database table that is
the activity of the access sequence.

Application is pack and usage is packaging specification.


Within application tab several usages are there our usage is PS
To maintain the condition record we require a condition type
0IBD is the standard one for this

Always condition type associated with access sequence this access sequence pull the condition records
We require the procedure to determine the master data (packaging specification and etc…)
Within the procedure 0IBD we have maintained condition type

See all are with unique name one with access sequence, another for the condition type, another for the
condition procedure as well.
Pack is the condition maintenance group
Against the ps we have maintained as bellow
Application, usage, condition

We are creating inbound delivery and maintaining ship from, product and supply chain unit; it is creating
a handling unit. Then where is the relation between inbound delivery and conditions?

But while I am generating inbound delivery automatically handling unit is creating so where is the link
between condition records and inbound delivery?
If we click on details we will get as bellow
0IBD is assigned to document type, therefore this is the relation between inbound deliver and our
determination procedure.

Test Case
1) Create inbound delivery ECC
2) Create inbound delivery EWM

You see automatic packaging created


If you are selecting no automatic packing
No HU selected because we have selected no automatic packaging

Here coming to the level we use quantity for it. I want to use 10 products in a carton
box if vendor supplies 25 products mean 2 carton boxes and 5 loose quantities how do
we achieve it?
Go to pack speck and pack speck is not possible to change so we generate a second
version

Generate it and go to level 2


You see that minimum quantity is not there so even one product is there it is back to HU
We have seen 2 test cases with
Minimum quantity is 10 and target quantity is 10
we are maintaining in that way min quantity 10 and Target quantity is 10 means if the
product is 10 then only it is generating handling unit
Activate and save
Create IB in ECC
IB in EWM

Next go to follow on functions pack


We can see here total 24
If I try to create warehouse task what warehouse task will be generated?
2 HU warehouse task and 1 product warehouse task will be generated

Now come to work steps element group, we have another product we maintain work
step and element group outside of the packaging specification we adapt into our master
data
Printable version of the pack specification
This is the standard one which we assigned here

If we want our home logos etc we copy this form name and change.

We know during packaging specifications system is trying to create element groups like
513 and 514 etc..
Go to Easy access ----
This is created during packaging specification that is stored as a master data if we want
we can use same 513 into other pack specification or else it is possible to create our
own as well
First we create work steps
SAVE
Create one more and save it
As we know packaging material and work step is a element
Reusable element group
Click on assign elements
Click on create

Fill the fields as bellow


Create for another one for main packaging with new entries here
Now we maintained 2 work steps in an element group we use this element group into
new packaging system

Go to details
We have to maintain our own here which we created initially, system will generate
automated one remove it
Similarly for main pack material we do the same
Save, do HU check and activate.
