Some key takeaways from the document are that Intent-Based Networking allows capturing business intent and automating network policies to simplify operations and ensure security. It aims to bridge the gap between business needs and what the network delivers.

Intent-Based networking (IBN) is a form of network administration that enables easy remote control of hardware-centric manual network. Such networks would be controller-led and would be transformed into policies that can be automated and applied consistently across the network.

It means that with IBN, a business owner can state their business intent or goals for the network. This intent is then translated into automated network actions and policies by the IBN system to align the entire network to meet that intent. The network is continuously monitored to optimize performance as per the stated intent.

Objectives
Part 1: Explore the Cisco Intent-Based Networking (IBN) website
Part 2: Introduction to Intent-Based Networking with Cisco DevNet
Part 3: Explore IBN Community Requests and Share Your Own

Background / Scenario

Today the network connects everything. What if the network could constantly adapt, protect, and notify based off
the intent of the business owner? With anIntent-Based network, based on an open platform, the network can
capture business intent and align the end-to-end network with that intent to bridge the gap between what the
business needs and what the network delivers.

Required Resources
● Computer with Internet Access

Part 1: Explore the Cisco Intent-Based Networking (IBN) website

In Part 1, you will be introduced to an overview and multiple use cases of Intent-Based Networking with Cisco.
While reading through this site and watching the embedded videos you’ll learn about human intent being
being transformed into machine policy implementation. Click on the link below to access the Cisco IBN
solution website.

Step 1: Read through the Cisco Solutions website above and answer the following questions:

What is Intent-Based networking (IBN)?

It is a form of network administration that enables easy remote control of hardware-centric
manual network. Such networks would be controller-led and would be transformed into policies
that can be automated and applied consistently across the network.

List at least two reasons for using IBN.

 Simplified Operations
 Security throughout the network

Part 2: Introduction to Intent-Based Networking with Cisco DevNet

In Part 2, you will be introduced to Intent-Based Networking with Cisco DevNet. While reading through this
blog you’ll learn about networks being programmable and how Intent-Based networking can be integrated via
code. Click on the link below to access the Cisco blog.

Step 1: Read through the blog using the link above and answer the following questions:
What is the first step to get started and hands-on with coding?
The first step in getting started with hands-on coding is to take a coding 101 class.

With IBN in use, what should happen if a business owner specifies an intent to the network?
A business owner can state a business intent for the network then the intent is translated into
network action. The action is then activated in the network and assurance is used to continuously
monitor, learn, and optimize the network’s performance in operating the intent.

Part 3: Explore IBN Community Requests and Share Your Own

In Part 3, you will view other community members requests for IBN code and you will share your idea for a
business intent with the community. Developers in the community can turn your idea into code. Click on the
link below to access the Cisco DevNet Community for Intent-Based networking and login using your
Netacad.com account:
https://developer.cisco.com/codeintent/

Step 1: Read through some of the intents developed by the community.

a. After reading through some of the intents built by community members, pick 2 intents that interest you
and list them below.
1. DNAC-Android-SDK - This is an intent driven android app to query the list and details of the managed
network devices for a given DNAC
2. DNAC-Device-Scan-Android-App - This project is an Andriod app that scans a device's Serial Number
and provides insights into the device. It also has a middleware app that is the interface to a DNA Center
instance.

Step 2: Make an Intent Wish

a. Create your own Intent Wish on the Cisco DevNet website and post it below:

Reflection
1. Can you think of other use cases for Intent-Based Networking (IBN) than what you’ve found in the 3
websites?

Aside from what I have found in the 3 websites, Intent-Based Networking can also be used in industrial
applications such as in the control of robotic production of materials since it can be applied for continuous
maintenance, control, calibration, and assessment of production of the robotic production equipment used.

2. What type of programming skills do you think you’ll need to deploy Intent-Based networks?

In order to deploy Intent-Based networks, I think I should be proficient with different programming languages
in order to be able to provide infrastructures that would fit the wisher’s preferred work. Moreover, it is
important that I am knowledgeable with managing and building communication networks.
