Discuss the main character(s) in the movie based on individual differences.

Individual differences are variations among people in relation to a single or a set of traits. It
stands for the distinctions that, taken together, define one person from another. In this movie,
“The Intern” the main characters are Jules Ostin (played by Anne Hathaway) and Ben
Whittaker (played by Robert De Niro). In this movie, Jules and Ben both exhibit different
type of personality, which created a balanced environment at work. Jules can be categorized
as an analyst, a commander (ENTJ), which has been clearly portrayed in the movie through
her role as the company’s CEO. Commanders are naturally gifted leaders. People with this
personality type exhibit the talents of charm and confidence, and they project authority in
such a way that masses rally around a shared objective (16personalities). Jules most notable
traits in this movies are determination and confidence. Jules clearly designed her workplace
to be successful, however, there are certain instances and acts that demonstrate her
ruthlessness when she is motivated to achieve a specific goal. This corresponds to the
commander personality type's flaws, which include intolerance, impatience, stubbornness,
and domination.

Due to the negative traits as a commander, Jules was feared by her employees. Ben, who is a
new worker, was warned strictly by the employees about Jules negative personality. They
mainly speak about her negative traits as a commander where lack of patience (she even
bothered when people are too slow when they talk). Her negative traits as a commander has
inflict a negative emotion among the worker in her workplace. Her intimidating traits resulted
for people avoiding from having a conflict with her, they even fear her. This perception of her
personality leaves a negative image on her, and potentially can cause damage on her work-
related relationship and even her personal relationship.

On the other hand, Ben’s personality can be described as a mediator, as he always eager to
offer his hands for a good reason. Ben has displayed the traits of his personality, a strong
people skill. He handled his interview session in a blast; he is such a great conversationalist.
He also is a flexible person and open minded in his workplace. He has shown great
dedication on his job, and with great experience, he has win over his colleagues. He proved to
Jules (who tends to be judging and sceptical due to her personality) that he is a catch. He able
to completed Jules’s task (which she can’t get her hand on) and advising her how to solve the
arising problems. It is clear from this movie, that this two personality actually clashed. Jules
are being irritated with Ben’s mediator personality which often shown through his concern on
her. However, she later on recognized the personality differences between she and Ben’s
actually complimented each other. Jules able to realized that when multiple personalities are
involved in a team, it only will get better. After recognizing this fact, Jules able to become
more open minded person and counter her negative traits as a commander. She was later then
able to combat the conflict at her workplace and her personal life.
If you are given a chance to act in this movie, which character will you choose? Provide your

If I was given a chance to act in this movie, I choose to be Jules. She clearly portrayed as a
person with purpose and a natural leader. She showed that she is a confident with her ability.
It is not easy to be a leader. Leadership is a critical management role that assists in directing
an organization's resources for increased efficiency and goal attainment. Effective leaders
give direction and motivation to their organisations in order for them to achieve their goals.
However, there are no manual on how exactly to be a leader. A person need to go through
much hardship before they can become a great leader, who can motivate other to work
together to reach a common goal. Jules personality clearly indicates that she got what is
needed to be a leader, in fact, a great leader. Determination, confidence, and passion are some
of her personality that I admire. When these personalities are being utilized in the proper
way, it can produce the best result that is beneficial not only for the individual, but also for
the organization. It can achieve its organizational goals under the lead of this type of leader.

Even though her personality is described as a negative personality in this movie, it is proved
that it can be changed. Ben’s existence has inflicted the change in Jules personality, showing
that all individual has the capability to change. Her character has shown a massive character
development throughout this movie. The capabilities to change herself to be a better person,
both in her workplace and her personal life is the reason that I would like to be her. She tries
to improve herself, not only professionally, but also as an individual. She willingly
acknowledged her weakness, and opted for an open minded and communicating with other in
her workplace. This will eventually avoid disputes and allow for more beneficial prospects to
be discovered. I am willing to be someone who learn from others to improve myself. Jules,
who improves from being in a close interaction with Ben is someone who I aim to be. I have
learned a lot of thing watching this character in the two-hours movie. Therefore, if I am given
a chance to act in this movie, I would choose Jules character as I believe that I would gain the
most experiences, developments and lessons from being her.
