Evolution of Transportation (40 Seconds)
Evolution of Transportation (40 Seconds)
Introduction
The evolution of transportation has gone through trials and tribulations as it has evolved through time. The history of
transport is largely one of technological innovation. Advances in technology have allowed people to travel further,
explore more territory, and expand their influence over larger areas. Now, we are going to present to you the evolution
of transportation which is divided into three modes of transport, the land, the sea and the air.
LAND TRANSPORTATION (10 seconds each bullet and video) 1 minute and 20 seconds
Before every other form of transportation, walking has been the primary mode of transport and humans
travelled on foot.
Around 4,000 BC, humans learnt to domesticate animals using them for transport and trade.
First made from wood, the wheel was used to create animal-drawn vehicles around 2,000 BC allowing longer
travel and more developed trade.
On March 25, 1662 Pascal invents the first public bus.
During the Industrial Revolution around 1816, the first motorways were invented.
The first car with a gas engine was made in 1886 by Carl Benz. It continued to develop leading to invention of
modern van and trucks during the 20 th century.
SEA TRANSPORTATION (1 minute)
This is the first water transportation. It is called the raft. It is made of stacks of wood lined next to each other.
Other primitive materials were also used.
After the raft, around 4,000 BC ancient Egyptian build the Reed boat and probably the first sailing boat.
Soon enough, Egyptians built these kind of ships allowing farther travel in search for new discovery.
The early people started building these advanced ships which allowed to travel even farther and hold more
supplies to trade.
Because of technology advancing, nowadays, these are cargo ships which can hold up to thousands of supplies
and trade.
This is the cruise ship. It is where many people would like to go on for a vacation.
The first hot air balloon created in 1783 by Joseph-Michael and Jacques Montgolfier started the beginning of air
transportation.
The first Zeppelins were through LZ-1 through LZ-4. It was finished in the winter of 1899.
In the December of 1903, at North Carolina, the Wright brothers invented the first ever manned flight machine.
In 1919 John Alcock and Arthur Brown flew their plane in Clifden, Ireland which led to more people wanting to
fly a plane.
On September 14, 1939 was when the first practical helicopter was flown in Stratford. And was Designed by Igor
Sikorsky and built by the United Aircraft Corporation.
The first space shuttle launch was in April 12, 1981 and was named STS-1.
So, where do the remainder years of this century and the future of transportation now take us? Will there be an end to
our inventive and transportation horizons? Or will we continue to go where no man or woman has every dared to go
before and beyond? The history of our evolving transportation and the mystery of its future will be in our hands, hearts
and minds.
