    LET’S GET STARTED!

    Think about our former President of the Philippines Ramon Magsaysay. Cite
    three things that made him a notable person in history and politics. Then write your
    answer inside the box below.

    -The administration of President Magsaysay was active in the fight against the expansion of
    communism in the Asian region.
    -He made the Philippines a member of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO),
    which was established in Manila on September 8, 1954 during the "Manila Conference".

    - He is best known for defeating the communist-led Hukbalahap (HUK) movement and
    restoring law and order during his stint as the secretary of defense of the Philippines.
    -The earliest known barongs were worn by the Tagalog natives on the island of Luzon

    Instructions: Answer the following questions based from the readings in chapter 2.1

    1. What Ideology do you prefer? Why?

    2. What political Ideology in this lesson do you dislike? Why?

    3. Part of the definition of nation-states is that the constituents more or less share a
    common culture and identity. In the Philippines, which is composed of more than
    100 different cultural groups, what do you think is that common Filipino identity
    and culture that binds us?

    Activity #4: Building your style

    1. Complete the basic Venn diagram by citing three differences between state and
    nation, and four similarities of both. Label the diagram accordingly.
