1. The basic installation principle of the Zibo B738 Mod is this

Full Zibo Base + Latest Fix = Complete latest Zibo

1. Download the latest “full base” version of the mod that is in the Google drive.
- It will be more than 1.1GB in size!
2. Download the latest fix file that is in the Google drive.
- It is only a few megabytes in size. The highest numeric value, at the end the
filename is the clue as to which one is the latest and then you can also check
the file date so there is no reason to get confused.
You only need the latest one!
3. Extract the B737-800x folder in to the XP11 > Aircraft folder
4. Extract the fix file’s contents into the B737-800x folder and overwrite the old files
when asked (MAC users will need to merge!) and then go fly!

As the mod evolved, (and still does daily!) so did the prerequisites to install and run the mod
correctly. As you will see, there is way more to the story than meets the eye.

The aim of this document is to share what I have learned while contributing to this project
and while working closely with Zibo himself.

Many thanks to Zibo, Twkster, Jorge, Jan, Jiri and Saso who have each contributed
personally, directly and indirectly to my knowledge and experience contained in this guide.

Also a special thank you to Uncle John, McTrying, Paul and Cody for your support as well as
to every real world pilot and user in the Zibo Pilot’s group who inspires me every day.

Please grab a coffee and take your time to work through this guide. There is a lot of
information to consider but the “Prerequisites” and “FAQ” sections are the most important
sections that you have to read and understand.

Best regards,
Skymatix

2. Basic prerequisites for a proper installation of the Zibo B738 files

2.1) A legal copy of X Plane 11.50 or newer ONLY !

- It needs to be a legal copy as you will need to update it periodically and you
cannot do it with a pirated version of XP11.

2.2) You need to download the latest FULL version of the Zibo mod and if there is a
“fix” file you will need that as well.
- The full version is currently called: B737-800X_3_49_full.zip
- The first fix should be called: B738X_3_49_1.zip and the next fix should be
B738X_3_49_2.zip or at least have a higher numerical number at the end.
Please check the dates if the number of the version is confusing to you. You
only need the latest fix!

2.3) If you are on MS-Windows 10, you WILL NEED Microsoft Visual C++
Redistributable 2015, 2017 & 2019 (64-bit). Get it here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-down

As Google Drive was never meant to be used for the scale of data
transfer it has to cope with right now, we have added a download
option to use torrents. This way we keep it free of charge and no one
will not be affected by the Google download quota anymore!

3. Very important information
.DO NOT - DO NOT - DO NOT - DO NOT - DO NOT.
1. Use the default Laminar Research B738 during the installation!
2. Download and use the old B737-800x folder from the Zibo Google Drive!
3. Mix, modify or enhance any Zibo versions! V3.47 is NOT compatible with v3.46
4. Do NOT use the experimental Flight model in XP11
5. Do not ignore errors reported on the Zibo tablet please do what it says!
6. Use XP11 Beta versions with the Zibo Mod until it is made compatible.
If you do, be prepared to provide proper feedback, evidence and answer a lot of
questions or be told NOT to use it.

.You have to & You MUST.

In order to truly enjoy the Zibo mod as it was designed to be, YOU have to take responsibility
for the following tasks;

YOU have to:

a) Deselect the “Experimental Flight Model” as well as the “Disable Down Wind
ILS” on XP11’s General Settings page (no tick in the boxes!)
b) Do the controller calibration of your X Plane 11 and the Zibo mod properly
c) Switch XP11 failures OFF. YOU can create failures in the Zibo Tablet or by not
following proper Boeing procedures!
d) Exclude XP11 and any related folder or program from your Anti-Virus “real time”
scanning system
e) To ensure correct loading of the mod, we currently recommend that you use the
developer menu in XP11 and use the “Reload Aircraft & Art” option to reload the
mod after spawning at the gate. This is to ensure correct loading of the scripts.
(The importance of this requirement will decrease as the transfer of xlua to C++ code
increases. You may skip this step at your own discretion)

Corrupt downloads or unzipped files

From personal experience, I highly recommend using Google Chrome or the new
Edge, with or without Internet Download Manager to download the Zibo zip files
and then to use 7-Zip (https://www.7-zip.org/) to unzip them.

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 6

4. How to perform a new installation of the B738x
1. Extract the B737-800X folder from the B737-800X_3_49_full.zip into the XP11,
Aircraft folder.

2. The contents of the B737-800x folder (see below) will be a complete Zibo Mod as
made and distributed by Zibo himself.

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 7

3. If any fix files are available then extract the latest available fix (B738X_3_49_XX.zip)
file into the B737-800x folder and overwrite the old files when prompted (MAC users
will have to merge them as required. See the supplemental MAC install guide)
4. Afterwards. you will have to start XP11 and select the Zibo mod, then start a flight to
allow it to build the supporting nav database files required to complete the
installation.
5. All that remains now is to configure the mod as described later in this document BUT
for all practical intents and purposes the installation itself is complete and the mod is
healthy and in good working order and ready to fly, as is.

5. How to upgrade the mod with a newly released fix file

1. NEVER mix versions, be careful!
The first fix is called B738X_3_49_1.zip and should be used if you are already on
V3.47 or newer only. If there is a newer file PLEASE get that one and skip
B738X_3_49_1.zip and all the fixes in between as you only need the latest fix!
2. As you had an existing Zibo version and only patched / upgraded it you do not need
to run XP11 or Start a flight with it to complete the upgrade, you are done 100% right
now. The mod is updated and ready to use immediately.
3. If the new release is a FULL version then you have to delete the existing Zibo
version that you have and replace it with a fresh, new installation of the latest full
version. You cannot mix versions and can therefore not copy your new full version
into an existing older version’s folder.

Special Instructions from V3.47 onward!

4. This version introduces “Placards”. They are stickers that can be switched on or off.
They are entirely optional but if you want to use them you need to rename OR
remove the following file from your desired livery’s, object folder;
“738cockpit_placards.dds”

I renamed mine with an x at the

end as can be seen here. This
way I can restore it if I want to.

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 8

6. How to do a fresh installation of the Zibo mod if you had it before
1. First you need to understand where the files are and what they do otherwise this
complete reinstall will never be completed properly.
2. The first number of important files are in the Zibo folder;

Files to backup:
a) b738_prefs.txt / b738_4k_prefs.txt (only backup if you are using the default XP11
camera system with predefined views and you will cry if you lose it, otherwise skip
this one)
b) b738_vrconfig.txt / b738_4k_vrconfig.txt (only backup this file if you use VR and
have modified it otherwise skip this file)
c) Clist.txt (only backup this file if you use XChecklist and are using a newer or
modified version)
d) X-Camera_b738.csv / X-Camera_b738_4k.csv (Only backup this file if you have it,
this is your xCamera presets)
e) If you have them, then save X-KeyPad_b738 and X-Keys as well
f) Realview.cfg (Only backup this file if you have it, this is your Realview presets)
g) The liveries folder - Each livery contains a cfg file that contains a portion of the
setting that you saved via the Zibo Tablet. If you do not save this you will have to
redo the affected settings.
h) X-RAAS.cfg - This is the file that contains the X-RAAS Setting specific to the Zibo
mod.

3. Additional Files to delete in the XP11\Output\preferences folder :

The b738x.cfg contains the shared Zibo tablet settings
a) The b738x_hw.cfg contains the shared hardware settings from the Zibo tablet
b) The b738x_state.dat contains the switches state
c) The b738x_status.dat contains the Zibo mods GPS location coordinates
*** You may remove these files from your XP11 Root folder if you still have
copies there.

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 9

4. The next group of Saved Flights files are not in the Zibo folder either;
They are located here in the main XP11\Output\situations folder and are called;
a) The B738X_01.dat, B738X_01.sit, B738X_02.dat, B738X_02.sit, B738X_03.dat,
B738X_03.sit, B738X_04.dat, B738X_04.sit contains the saved file situations
b) The new Autosave files are also located here and is called B738X_00.dat &
B738X_00.sit

Important notes about these files;

Zibo recommends that you do not use OLD versions of the saved flights in a newer
version of the Zibo mod and that you make new files with every new Zibo version.
There are instances where these old files might work and instances where it simply
will not work until you make new ones.

Secondly, at this time, the Autosave will only work if the Zibo mod detects a crash of
the Zibo code. In other words if XP11 did not close down correctly.

5. The procedure:
1) Make a backup of your B737-800x folder THEN
2) Delete this entire B737-800x folder located in your aircraft folder as well as all the cfg
files, in all the locations, outside of the Liveries folders.
3) Perform the installation routine from page 7 above but do not start XP11 yet!
4) Put your backup files back in place, overwriting the files that the new installation has
put in place.
5) Now you can start XP11 and start a flight with the Zibo to allow it to rebuild the
additional files and complete the installation for you.

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 10

7. How to configure your XP11 for the best result with the Zibo mod
1. 1First you need to set your XP11 settings as mentioned in this guide;

The setting items underlined with RED are critical to have, as shown!!!
As the Zibo now has its own failure system it is recommended to have the XP11 failures
turned OFF

The settings underlined with GOLD are user preference settings and you may set them as
you wish.

If you intend to use XP11 and the Zibo for simulation purposes and not just as a game I
highly recommend using the settings shown above.

2. Now you need to set your controller profile

I highly recommend making a new and specific controller profile for your Zibo based aircraft

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 11

This way you can set all the settings and calibrations for Zibo specific without influencing any
other aircraft’s settings.

3. Now you need to calibrate your controller

a) You need to calibrate all of the controller(s) that you will be using, in the new profile

*** REMEMBER to do your rudder pedals

as well :)

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 12

b) Your next step will be to configure the Control Sensitivity and to REMOVE any
Stability Augmentation, completely, as shown… Pull all sliders far left to disable it.

The Control Response is YOUR Personal choice.

Sliders moved more left = lighter aircraft
Sliders moved more right = heavier aircraft
(my choice - 70 tons cannot behave like a Pitts Special)

The reason for moving all the Stability Augmentation sliders to the left is to allow the
Zibo code to do the work for us, instead of the Laminar Research code.
This is the single most important setting that will affect the Zibo mod

* Always remember that the sliders on the left is linked to your controller while the
sliders on the right is linked to the aircraft ACF file and you do not want to influence
the ZIbo acf file!

Once this part is completed

You can move on to the Tablet in the Zibo cockpit

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 13

8. How to configure the Zibo mod before your first flight
The Zibo Mod needs proper configuration before your first flight. This is done via the
Zibo Tablet, also known as the EFB (The Electronic Flight Bag). The tablet is the heart of
the mod. If it is not set correctly you will definitely not enjoy the mod and will encounter
issues that you will not be prepared for.

One of the most significant changes in the last few versions is the introduction of real
world configuration options to accommodate the real world airline pilots who have chosen
to make the Zibo mod their sim model of choice. Some of the settings will have no
significant meaning for ordinary simmers until they study the FCOM or other relevant
literature but the real pilots will find great value in them.

It is important to understand that the Zibo mod is configurable to represent multiple

versions of the B738 and your choices in the EFB will determine the model variant that
you will get at the end of the day.

For a detailed explanation and guidance on the settings, their meaning and resulting
actions I highly recommend reading (especially if you are serious about flying this aircraft)
the EFB guide that Richard made for the mod. His page and the download link for the
guide can be found here;
https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/185598-efb-user-guide-v3459-update
d/

My settings shown or mentioned here are just to help get you going quickly ;)
Screenshots of all my tablet screens can be viewed here;
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjcwFonqlaRWlzACfah5R_a6iKN4?e=z8RgyK

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 14

1. First you need to set and calibrate your controllers and a few settings;
a) Start by setting your controllers. From the tablet home page, go to page two
by clicking on the right side of the screen almost touching the bezel. Then
select Configure & Customize and then Hardware

b) You need to look at your Zibo throttle levers and then set your “Throttle Noise
Lock” to a value where those levers stop shaking.
c) Also set the “A/T Engaged Lock Throttle to ON
d) Unless you use a force feedback controller set “Yoke Auto Centre” to OFF
e) If you have rudder pedals you must set “Toe Brakes” to “Differential” and
Nose Wheel steering to “YAW”
f) If you have a spare lever on a throttle or joystick and want to simulate a tiller
you must set the Nose Wheel steering to “On”

Now use the back arrow then click on “Calibration” to calibrate the Zibo mod to correctly use
your controllers…..

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 15

g) On this page you have to make sure that your controllers do not move the
0.00000 values shown below (marked in yellow) If they do you need to
increase the numbers on the far right (Marked in red) until they stop and stay
stationary at 0 (zero). This way any “noise” on the controllers will be
discarded by the Zibo mod and only legitimate control inputs will be “listened”
to.

2. Secondly, you need to tell the mod if you use payware Navigation Data such as
Navigrap or Nav Data Pro;
This is an optional but (highly recommended) step because not all users require the
same level of accuracy in the sim and not all users subscribe to payware nav data
while some users do..
a) Start by making a 100% sure that you are using the correct DATA version.
I use Navigraph and mine is set correctly to the XP11.50+ version and it is
installed to the X-Plane 11\Custom Data folder

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 16

b) At this time you need to go to the tablet settings, find General Config then go
to page two and then set “Create Custom Navdata” to ON as shown below.
To get the mod to create the custom nav data file you will have to complete
two more steps

c) Click on “Home” on the tablet then select “Save & Load Configuration” and
then click on “Quick Save All Configs”

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 17

d) At this time, you now have to restart XP11 and select to fly the Zibo mod
afterwards, again.
e) Once you have restarted XP11 and the Zibo mod you will be presented with
this notice on the Tablet

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 18

f) To save time, you may use the Developer menu in XP11 and simply select
“Reload Current Aircraft (Skip Art Reload)” as shown below.

This takes care of the basic installation and calibration of the

Zibo Mod
- as it should be -

Operational Tips

IF the SKI Rain effect crashes XP11, the problem seems to be XP11 Installation Path
related, Try the default Desktop location or E:\X-Plane 11 (E will be your drive of choice)

Zibo recommends “Threaded Optimization = OFF” in the NVidia config, for better
Frames Per Second, if you encounter FPS issues when using the SKI effect and
ON when using his rain effect

Unless you actually use XHSI, you need to have it turned OFF in the Zibo tablet

A/T Engaged Lock Throttle as well as Throttle Noise Lock will prevent your hardware
throttle from interfering with the Zibo code.

Sound Bank errors, remove any B738 aircraft form XP11’s AI panel fixes the problem If
you have then start XP11 to clear the error

Navigational Data errors can also sometimes be resolved by deleting the B738X_apt.dat,
B738X_gate.dat & B738X_rnw.dat from the Zibo mod folder.
If the problem persists PLEASE also delete the user_nav.dat file from the XP11, Custom
Data folder and simply restart the Zibo mod. It will rebuild the databases. Then follow the
prompt on the Zibo Tablet

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 19

9. Useful Joystick Commands
Please note that the Zibo must be running in the background for the commands to show as
required!

Action Required Command Required

Autothrottle Toggle = Autothrottle ARM
Trim Up = Pitch Trim Up
Trim Down = Pitch Trim Down
Flaps Extend = Flaps down a notch
Flaps Retract = Flaps up a notch
Engage TOGA power = Engage TOGA power
YAW trim Left = YAW trim Left
YAW trim Right = YAW trim Right
Disconnect Autopilot (bar) = AP Disconnect
Toggle Command A = Command A

Lights on the Honeycomb Yoke

.DO NOT.
Do not use “Servos toggle” as command to disengage the autopilot, it will create a trim
problem in the Zibo mod

10. Performance Data
Showing the 160 Seater model and how I synchronised it with the other programs
PLEASE NOTE: The Zibo mod now also supports other seating configurations. Use the
same airframe data and ONLY change the number of seats in Simbrief, STKP or PFPX. The
Zibo mod will adjust the CG accordingly, dynamically!

This is what the content looks like. Be careful not to create additional folders because it will
not work if you do.

WebFMC is an X-Plane 11 plugin that makes it possible to access the CDU of select

web browser running on virtually any device (phone, tablet, smart TV...) in your local
network or from inside STKP

7. Real 737 Display Mod

The Real 737 Display Mod brings improved displays for the Zibo mod B737-800

You may download it from here:

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/54445-real-737-display-mod/

* This plugin installs into the Zibo mod folder and will need to over write zibo files. It
will not affect the copy protection BUT you have to be careful. I recommend this for
advanced users only. Support is provided by the developer via his Discord. Please do
not ask me to support this if you need help. As of V3.43.1 This mod will interfere with
the Zibo EICAS and you will have to be even more careful.

12 Known issues & solutions FAQ
12.1) Mouse Pointer - this pointer sometimes misbehaves and then we are unable to use it
in the Zibo as we should.

This is what the corruption usually looks like

_hdg_hold_mag[0] -nan(ind)
_hdg_hold_mag[1] -nan(ind)

You have 3 options to fix it.

1) You can open the default 747 and click a few buttons then go back to the Zibo.
This technique sometimes fails, be warned!
2) You can edit the X-Plane.prf file and simply remove the problem
This is what the lines MUST look like
_hdg_hold_mag[0] 0.000000
_hdg_hold_mag[1] 0.000000
3) You can just delete the x-plane.prf file and then let XP11 rebuild it. This is useful
for a lot of other issues and my go to fix when XP behaves badly !

12.2) I move my throttle but no thrust is applied - You forgot to install Microsoft C++
2017 Redistributable or yours is broken and requires an uninstall and reinstall. Also check
your hardware, you might also have another controller intercepting the current/new
controller!!!

9.3) No Magenta Line or Duct pressure or Detected missing or unsupported files - You
could be using a livery that is either not compatible or contains assets like panels that clash
with the Zibo. Try a default livery and fix or replace your livery. Another reason your duct
pressure will not work is when you installed the mod incorrectly. Never mix versions or add
older fixes after newer fixes and DO NOT edit any config files, tampering with Zibo’s files
will kill the mod ! Please also try the 2K or 4K version, sometimes one will work.
Lastly you may try fixing this by removing the Zibo completely and do a fresh
installation as described earlier in this document as you may have corrupt files!

12.4) Nav Database issue - You need to keep this updated with a Navigraph subscription.
To rebuild the Zibo database in case of an error, you need to delete B738X_apt.dat,
B738X_gate.dat & B738X_rnw.dat in the Main Zibo folder.

If the problem persists - PLEASE also delete the user_nav.dat file from the XP11,
Custom Data folder and simply restart the Zibo mod. It will rebuild the databases.
Then follow the prompt on the Zibo Tablet

12.5) No T/D calculated - You need to make sure that your cruise altitude is higher than the
Altitude restriction of the STAR’s first waypoint OR take another route that does not have the
same constraints.

12.6) My engines die after take-off - You need to configure and operate the aircraft
according to proper procedures. You probably melted the engines by running at full throttle
for too long instead of using TO/GA

12.7) The aircraft falls out of the sky - There are a few reasons;
- Ice or incorrect weather engine settings
- Extending the flaps at too high speed and losing the control surfaces

12.8) The Zibo Tablet and or Displays, displays incorrectly - You installed the xLua
plugin into the main XP11 Plugins folder. Just remove this plugin and install the Zibo mod
correctly

12.9) Low FPS - There are a few reasons;

- Incorrect graphics settings. Expecting the flight simulator to be a scenery simulator
as well is not always doable if you did not spend enough money on your PC
- Incorrect Threaded Optimization setting. Usually with ReShade
- Using environmental add-ons that use large textures and LUA scripts that eat VRAM
- Old or corrupt Shader Cache - Please delete the Shader cache regularly. (X-Plane
11\Output\shadercache)

12.10) The Zibo nosedives after take-off - There are a few reasons;
- Script failure because you thought the developer reload was not required as
described in this guide :)
- Incorrect turnaround procedures used with the Zibo, on the second leg
- Incorrect settings used on the MCP and / or using Incorrect procedures during
take-off

12.11) The weather radar does not work - There are a few reasons;
- You enabled XHSI in the Zibo tablet
- You do not have enough water to reflect so there is nothing to show

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 36

12.12) The displays have writing and symbols all over them
- You probably installed the wrong version of C++. Please make sure and also check
that it is the 64-bit versions as the 32-bit versions will give display errors.

13. Other tips and tricks you might find useful
The Zibo Tablet is full of settings. I do not use all of them and I encourage you to go through
the tablet and experiment. The worst that can happen is that you might need to reinstall the
Zibo if you mess it up, so don’t be shy. Remember also what was said in Section 8.

13.1) When you select LED lights you lose two of the landing light switches and you can also
make the LED landing lights pulse. Apparently good for chasing birds away and
reducing bird strike amongst other things.

*** Another Filler Tip ***

Plugins of add-on hardware panels including the Saitek and even other more advanced
ones, might negatively affect the Zibo, even if not plugged in. Please make sure to keep
the plugins/ software up to date to avoid any issues.

We highly recommend disabling ANY 3rd party software and plugins when troubleshooting
the Zibo. This is a normal step in the process of elimination while troubleshooting the Zibo!

13.2) The most popular setting to get nose wheel steering working is the YAW option

13.3) The same calibration options that you saw earlier in this document is available for your
throttle as well. This is extremely useful if you have an old throttle with noise on the line

If you suffer from Auto Throttle disconnects you might want to try the A/T Engaged Lock
Throttle option on the same page.

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 39

13.4) Yoke Auto Centre & Yoke Movement must be OFF and that should help you if you
have Autopilot disconnect issues

13.5) If you struggle to connect CMD A, set AP Yoke Neutral Tolerance to simply and able
the Flight Director Helper to give you the visual queues

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 40

13.6) You can sync the Captain & F/O QNH & Minimums on the PFD’s by setting it in the
Aircraft Configuration page 2.

13.7) You can now save your flight Zibo state during flight and restore it to a specific saved
point in time. The Zibo will respawn right where you clicked the save button and you can
then check the state and continue your flight.

Zibo recommends that you start ALL your recovery

flight with engines running at this time.

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 41

You may save/restore the flight at 8 different places during the flight

As of Version 3.47, the Zibo mod now supports Auto Save and option for you to recover the
flight after a system crash. The Zibo mod will auto detect the crash and at the next start up of
the mod you will have to decide if you want to restore the flight or not. See picture below;

© Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix), 1 January 2018 42

13.8) Switch Sate Presets - (inop right now, Zibo will fix it when he has time) If for some
reason you want the start-up switches in a different position as supplied by default you may
set the states via the tablet to suit your own needs.

13.9) You can enable “Hardware Throttle on EICAS” to show you the position that your
hardware throttles are in, at any given time. This will make it easy to match them to the N1
position at any given time that you want to disconnect the Auto Throttle and use them
manually. See the little triangles below.
