3.0 GENERAL
3.1 SLOP IS AN APPROVED PROCEDURE THAT ALLOWS AIRCRAFT TO FLY ON A
PARALLEL TRACK 1 NM OR 2 NM TO THE RIGHT OF THE CENTRE LINE
RELATIVE TO THE DIRECTION OF FLIGHT. SLOP PROVIDES ADDITIONAL
SAFETY MARGIN AND MITIGATE THE RISK OF TRAFFIC CONFLICT WHEN
NON-NORMAL EVENTS SUCH AS AIRCRAFT NAVIGATION ERRORS, HEIGHT
DEVIATION ERRORS AND TURBULENCE INDUCED ALTITUDE-KEEPING ERRORS DO
OCCUR. AN AIRCRAFTS USE OF THIS PROCEDURE DOES NOT AFFECT THE
APPLICATION OF PRESCRIBED SEPARATION STANDARDS.
3.2 AIRCRAFT EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC OFFSET TRACKING CAPABILITY
ARE AUTHORIZED TO APPLY SLOP WITHIN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN RANDOM

CENTRE LINE IS 30 NM OR MORE, THEREFORE OFFSET TO THE RIGHT OF THE
CENTRE LINE RELATIVE TO THE DIRECTION OF FLIGHT SHOULD BE APPLIED

IN ACCORDANCE WITH ECOWAS DECISIONS, ALL FLIGHTS TO AND FROM MALI
ARE SUSPENDED IN ALL GHANA AIRPORTS.
THIS RESTRICTION DOES NOT AFFECT THE FOLLOWING FLIGHTS:
I. OVERFLIGHT AIRCRAFT
2. AIRCRAFT IN STATE OF EMERGENCY
3. SPECIAL FLIGHTS.
SPECIAL FLIGHTS ARE TO OBTAIN AUTHORIZATION ISSUED BY GHANA CIVIL
AVIATION AUTHORITY
