DIGITAL LITERACY AMONG SUBANEN

ABSTRACT

Digital Literacy has played a vital role as online resources became a fundamental
component in terms of academic discipline and occupation. Thus, the role of technology
has provided a requirement of expanding the notion of the people’s Digital Literacy.
However, Subanen people in Mindanao who lived along river banks and mountains posit
scarcity in digital literacy due to their demographic location and insufficient access to
technology. This study employed quantitative method to evaluate and quantify variables
which entailed statistical methods (e.g. Pearson Chi-square) to analyze numerical data
obtained from the questionnaire provided. Nevertheless, results showed that there was no
significant difference among Subanen’s Digital Literacy when analyzed according to
profile specifically on sex, age, and civil status. Meanwhile, it was determined that there
existed a significant difference in digital literacy level among Subanen with respect to
their civil status in terms of social media and digital devices.
