ABOUT CAREER DEVELOPMENT & GUIDANCE CENTRE (CDGC)


Career Development & Guidance Centre earlier named as Training & Placement Office offers all
round Career Solution to the students. Career Development & Guidance Centre guides students
to decide and pursue their dream careers in different sectors. The whole placement process is
organized and executed by this centre. The campus interviews are held under the supervision
and jurisdiction of this centre and the relevant feedback is obtained from the industry. Career
Development & Guidance Centre works hard to arrange full semester industrial internship,
which is stipulated under the academic curriculum. The centre has kept a close liaison with
many companies in the country.
The centre also arranges career talks for dissemination of knowledge regarding the employment
opportunities in the industry related to the relevant fields and interest of the students. Centre
keeps record of the students who undergo internships and the companies which come for
recruitment. In addition Finishing School/So Skill Development workshops are also organized
to improve the communication skills of students. It encourages visits to the industries by the
institute students and arranges industrial problems to be worked out by students as part of
their projects. It also takes suggestions from members of the industry regarding designing/
changing of curriculum. It takes care of :-

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University)
Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh (PEC) having its
roots in Lahore as Mugalpura Engineering College since 1921, moved to its present
campus in 1953 as PEC affiliated to Punjab University. The institute became Deemed
University in 2003 through a MHRD notification and rechristened as Punjab
Engineering College (Deemed to be University) of Technology in 2009. It is a Grant-in
-Aid institute under administration of Union Territory of Chandigarh, Government of
India. The institute has a 150 acres sprawling and pious campus and is house of
Chandigarh College of Architecture. The academic and administrative processes are
similar to IITs in the country. With a history of about 100 years now, the institute has
produced a number of alumni who have earned name and fame both for themselves
and the institute.

The training and placement office will be pleased to co-ordinate your


campus visit by providing assistance in the following processes:-

Internship Semester
The penultimate year students pursuing B. Tech programs can opt for a semester long internship in
leading organizations as a part of their curriculum. The duration of the internship is flexible with
minimum 16 weeks to a maximum of 24 weeks between January to July. This enables them to get an
exposure in tackling live problems that occur in the working of an individual entity also making them
placement ready for their final years. These internships, along with various industrial visits keep the
students informed and up-to-date about latest industrial trends. The training also includes at least
one faculty visiting the organization, for evaluating the student and fostering Institute-Industry
Interaction and feedback.

Entrepreneurship & Incubation Cell (EIC)

The Entrepreneurship Incubation Cell (EIC), PEC University of Technology is a self-financing, not – for
-profit organization. It is an initiative that aims at fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship in the
college. The aim of the organization is to help the youth break free from the shackles of mediocrity
and to awaken the youth towards considering entrepreneurship as a serious career option. It
administers as a business incubator that provides support for technology-based entrepreneurship.

Centre of Management and Humanities (CMH)


The Centre of Management and Humanities (CMH) was established in 2016 by carving out a section
of academics pertaining to Management and Humanities from the Department of Applied Sciences.
It began to operate as an independent Centre, following similar norms as other Departments of the
University, from 2017 onwards in the New Academic Block of the University campus.

The Centre offers courses such as Ethics and Self Awareness, Communication Skills (Basic and
Advanced), Economics, Sociology, Psychology and French to B. Tech 1st & 2nd year students. In
addition to a compulsory course in Management to B. Tech 8th semester students, minor
specialization in various Management subjects (Financial Management, Business Environment &
Business Laws, Managing Innovation and Change, Human Resource Management, Marketing
Management, Business Research, etc.) are offered to B. Tech 7th and 8th semester students.
The CMH also offers Communication and So Skills (CASS) to M. Tech students. In addition, PhD
course is also available in different domains of these disciplines.

Deferred Placement Policy


Students of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) of Technology Chandigarh who
are now showing a keen interest on taking up entrepreneurial challenges over a secure campus
placement process, now have a backup with the institute introducing a 'deferred placement policy’
this year.

The policy will be applicable for the current


batch, which will graduate in 2021. Such a

The two-day annual “Open House” is an event, organized by the Career Development & Guidance Centre

different Technical Societies also get a chance to show case their talent at this platform. During the event
CDGC invite students (10th class-12th class) from different schools of Tricity to have an exposure to the
possible career paths in Engineering.
OPEN FORUM
Open Forum is a public platform for all the stakeholders at PEC, who wants to associate with CDGC for
placement and Internship processes. The Rules & Guidelines are discussed, deliberated and adopted for
the forthcoming session.

events to technical interests. The college also has a renowned yearly festival PECFEST which is known all
around India and also Internationally. The students are encouraged to become the member of various
bodies/clubs/societies in the college like IEEE, Robotics Society, SAE, SAASC, Dramatics Club, Art and
Photography Club, Entrepreneurship & Incubation Cell and many more to help broaden their skills and

Dharam Pal
Appointed as the Adviser to the UT Administrator, Chandigarh, he is a 1988 batch IAS officer
of the AGMUT cadre, did his Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electronics and Communications
from PEC during 1981-85 and MTech in Computer Systems from IIT Delhi. Prior to his current
appointment, he was serving as the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers,
GoI. He has vast experience in several sectors including delivering health services to
communities located over different islands to providing electricity to islanders, from having
seven-year international working experience with the United Nations to heading several
departments.

Anup Panday
The Union government on 8th June appointed Anup Chandra Pandey (IAS Retd. UP Cadre
1984 Batch) as the Election Commissioner of India. He is Punjab Engineering College(PEC)
alumnus of Mechanical Engineering (Batch 1979). He also holds an MBA degree and a
doctorate in Ancient History.He has served as the Chief Secretary in Uttar Pradesh from
2017-19. In the Election Commission, Pandey will have approximately three years in office
and will retire in February 2024.

Sandeep Bakhshi
Mr. Sandeep Bakhshi is the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank since October 15, 2018.
Prior to his appointment as MD & CEO, he was a Wholetime Director and the Chief Operating
Officer (COO) of the Bank. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Punjab
Engineering College, Chandigarh, and has a postgraduate degree in management from XLRI
- Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur. Mr. Bakhshi has been with the ICICI Group since
1986 and has handled various assignments across the group in ICICI Limited, ICICI Lombard
General Insurance, ICICI Bank and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance.

Dhanpat Singh
Dhanpat Singh is a Former IAS officer who has been appointed as the new Haryana state
election commissioner. He is out alumnus of 1982 Civil Batch. He also did MA Public
Administration and MBA from the University of Hull, England, UK. He also completed
advanced course in Program & Project Management from University of Connecticut, USA
and also in Senior Leaders in Management from Harvard University, USA. He is also the
President of Kalpana Chawla Memorial Foundation and is associated with several NGOs/
social organisations.
