1. In the group R of non-zero real numbers the binary operation is defined by

3. A binary operation * is defined on the set Z of integers by a*b=a+b-1. Show
that 1 is an identity element.

ANALTICAL GEOMETRY

1. Find the distance between the points ( 5,4,-6) and ( 3,2,-4).
2. Show that the points ( 1,3,4) , ( -1,6,10) , ( -7,4,7 ) and ( -5,1,1 ) are the
vertices of a rhombus.
3. Define Direction cosine and Direction ratio?
4. If the direction ratios of a line are 3,4,5, find the direction cosines of the line.
5. Show that the lines whose direction ratios are 2,3,4 and 1,-2,1 are right angle.
6. Find the equation of the line through the points (3,-2,1) and (2,1,3).

1. Find the co-ordinates of the point that divides the line joining the points (1, 3,-
4) and (4, 1,-2) in the ratio 3:-1.
2. The centroid of a triangle (4,-1,1). If two of the vertices of the triangle are at
(4,-2,7) and (5,-4,1), find the third vertex.
3. Find the ratio in which the line joining the points A(1,4,6) and B(-4,-3,5) is
divided by the YZ-plane.
4. If cosα, cosβ and cosγ are the direction cosines of the line L, then cos2α +
cos2γ + cos2β=1
5. the direction cosines of the two lines satisfy the equations l-5m+3n=0 and

4.If a + 2b and 5a – 4b are perpendicular, where a and b are unit vectors, show
that the angle between a and b is 60.
