RETOUCH AND BLEND IMAGES

Lesson 2 : Week 2 - Visual Communication and Adobe Photoshop


OBJECTIVES
➤ Inthis lesson, you should be
able to:

•make quick adjustments to
images using Photoshop;

•differentiate bitmap images
from vector graphics; and

•recognize portions of an
image that can be removed to
give focus.
PIXELS
Are rectangular grids of tiny dots
that make up an image.
Bitmaps use pixels to represent
images. This is because they
display relatively smooth
gradations of shades and color as
opposed to vector images.
OPENING AN IMAGE IN PHOTOSHOP
ZOOMING, PANNING, AND NAVIGATING AN IMAGE
Zoom Tool allows you to zoom in or zoom out of an image.

The maximum magnification level is 3200% and the


minimum is 1 pixel.

ADJUSTING BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST
Brightness / Contrast Tool allows you to
adjust the difference between light and dark
tones.

SELECTING PARTS OF AN IMAGE
You select pixels in Photoshop primarily using the Selection
tool. It isolates parts of your image.

By selecting specific areas, you can edit and apply changes to


portions of your images while leaving the unselected areas in
their original state.

REMOVING THE RED EYE
The red eye is a bright red dot that sometimes
appears in the center of your subject’s pupils.

Red Eye Tool can eliminate the red eye effect.

ERASING AN OBJECT FROM AN IMAGE
Photoshop allows you to remove elements from your picture
that detract from the subject.

Photoshop replaces the erased area with the colors and


textures of the area surrounding the erasure.

CLONING PART OF AN IMAGE
Clone Stamp Tool, aka Rubber Stamp tool, allows you to
paint one part of the image over another part of the same
image.

This is useful in duplicating objects or removing a defect in


an image.
