Course Business Statistics introduces the basic statistical methods that are commonly
Description: used for managerial decision making. Emphasis is on applying methods and
interpreting results. Extensive use is made of statistical software. The course
first reviews the descriptive statistics and basic concepts of probability
distributions in particular the normal distribution. Then the course studies topics
on inferential statistics such as confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, one-way
analysis of variance, and correlation analysis. The course finally covers simple
linear regression and introduces students to multiple linear regression and time
series forecasting.

Relationship This course (statistics) is considered a service course for many other courses
to Other such as finance, marketing, marketing research, and managerial economics at
Coursework: the undergraduate level. Many of the topics covered in this course such as
hypothesis testing, descriptive analysis, regression and correlation analysis, time
series and forecasting are used in the above mentioned courses.

Program The key BBA program goals addressed through this course are:
Learning
Goals B-LG1: Business Professional Competence: Throughout this course, students
Emphasized: will be able to apply statistical techniques that will allow a firm to
compete successfully within its environment. Through the application of
statistical techniques, concepts, and modeling, students will gain
business professional knowledge and insight that allows them to
understand the underlying factors and variables that form a critical part
of a firm’s competitive strategy and its ability to sustain it. Students will
gain an understanding of the value that can be derived from analyzing
variances, correlations, regression, and time series analysis. Performance
will be assessed by the instructor in this course through classroom
exercises.

B-LG2: Decision Making: Through an integrated case study, students will

recognize and describe analytical-quantitative approaches to business
and managerial decision-making situations. They will also demonstrate
competency in the application of these analytical-quantitative
approaches. They will use the results of the analysis to make
recommendations and well-informed decisions.
