ISSUES IN CAMPUS JOURNALISM

1. Lack of Funds
2. Repression of Campus Publications to release news about the issues of their school or even a socio-political
issue.
3. Red-tagging of being an activist or being involved in the violent communist insurrection.

SOLUTIONS
Number 1
 Collaborate with administrators and stakeholders.
 Limit the number of release news.
Reasons:
 School Administrators and Stakeholders have a bigger stake in assisting learners with their
education since they are the agents in the community who have the most appropriate and
adequate resources.
 Their participation in the preparation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) is necessary to
guarantee the school’s overall development and improvement through collaboration and shared
responsibility.
 Student publications receive non-mandatory funding from their school administration. Thus,
students are given the option of receiving an actual or a digital copy of their release news or
school papers due to minimizing the number of copies available.

Number 2
 Genuine freedom of the press,
 No censorship, and
 Limitation of admin intervention.

Reasons:
 The primary obligation of journalism, according to the Principles of Journalism, is, to tell the truth.
The campus press is made to give the students a chance to speak and voice out - nothing but the
truth.
 Journalists should be as transparent as possible about their sources and techniques, so that readers
may analyze the material for themselves.
 Accuracy is said to be the basis on which all else is built: context, interpretation, commentary,
criticism, analysis, and discussion.
 Journalists must be loyal to citizens and the greater public good.
Number 3
 Educate people about the bad effects of red-tagging and why we shouldn't do red-tagging.

Reasons:
 Despite the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, members of the campus press require more protection
than ever before from many sorts of violations of their press freedom on campus.
 Instead of maligning and harming people for using their right to freedom of speech legally, the
government should attempt to address valid criticism of its policies and practices.
 The student press, like journalists, must be granted the freedom to report on essential issues in their
communities without fear of harassment or violence. It is difficult to bring to light the flaws and
inadequacies of educational institutions that must be addressed to improve students' overall welfare
without the help of student journalists.
