STRATEGIC QUESTION AND EXERCISES

1. Explain why it is important for a business to have a vision

- A vision is a statement that pictures the business' aspiration at a certain time in the
future. It may reflect company's goals for certain aspects like finances, service quality
standards, growth, sustainability as well the business values and principles. And it is very
important for any organization to have a vision because it will serve as their guide in
making small and major decisions. It's like giving the company a clear focus that will
guide everyone in the right direction. With vision, every department's principle in the
business is also aligned, hence, the smooth exchange of ideas and avoidance of internal
conflicts.

- In other words, vision sets the pace of the organization, gives clear guidance on how to
do things and binds every internal and external stakeholders in achieving a common
goal.

2. Does vision always acquire transformation?

- Yes. Vision statement shows the imagined future picture that a person or an
organization wishes to establish itself in. The vision therefore explains the reason as to
why the organization has the adopted structure that it operates with. It shows what the
organization is striving for. It is with the vision that goals, objectives and strategies are
set geared towards achieving the underlying expected bigger picture. From the set
deliverables and strategies, structural adjustments involving people (leaders and
followers or employees and employees) are inspired to work towards realization of the
set vision. It is the inspiration and motivation that leads to transformation following the
set strategies, manageable goals that are aligned to the overall set vision.

3. Explain why the CEO is the only person in the organization who can coordinate?
- The cooperation function entirely rests on the CEO since he sits in the board of directors
that is tasked with formulating the company's strategy goals, responsibilities and duties
of each department and division in realizing the set mission. It is with this knowledge
that the CEO has the knowledge on every aspect of the company and required
operational direction of each department that he is bestowed with the responsibility to
coordinate functions of the company. It would be difficult to delegate such enormous
responsibilities to a lesser person falling short of knowledge on the full ability on every
department or division of the company.
4. Explain why adaptability and improvisation are skills that a CEO should possess.
Adaptability is the ability to fit to changing circumstances while improvisation is the skill
of being proactive and innovative to create and improve on existing product/project of
affairs. In it true and realistic that the environment is always dynamic as change is
inevitable. A good CEO should be flexible and adaptive to changing circumstances and
above all be proactive to changes rather than be reactive as some changes could have
drastic and negative effects on the operational effectiveness of the organization.

CASE STUDY

CASE 3 – S&C GARMENTS

1. Based on the details, what kind of organization structure does S&C Garments have?
- S&C Garments is a functional organizations type of organization structure because base
of what I’ve read under the supervision of Jen there are 3 who were in charge of
administrative function which are the Finance and Accounting Department, Personnel in
Charge and Manager (Costumer Relation) while the remaining were mostly supervisors
and factory workers. All of this department will have its own department head which is
said to be responsible that helps the organization control the quality of performance.

2. Is Jen indispensable to the business? Why?

- Nobody is indispensable when it comes to functional organization so Jen is not
indispensable in a business. Even when someone goes away or goes on a vacation or
gets fired, the organization can simply hire a replacement who fits on jobs description,
the business can then continue.

3. Assuming that Jen will no longer be willing to run the business, who do you think
would be in the best position to replace her? Would this be a person from inside the
organization or an outsider?
- In a business, Jen can be replace from outside the organization if it fits in a job
description but it would be better if the person who will replace Jen is from the inside of
the organization. It is advantage because the person who knows already how he
business operates and knows how to control the performance of the organization.
4. Would you recommend that Jen pursue her graduate business school studies to run
the business or will it just be a waste of time? What advice you give to her?
- It will be the best for Jen to pursue her graduate business school studies to run the
business so she will be able to familiarize about the operation in a business and to know
what corrective action she could take especially when it comes to decision making for
the company. With a great knowledge in a business the stated goals of the organization
will be achieved in a desired manner.

CASE 4 – TRIPLE STATE HARDWARE CORPORATION

1. Based on the details, what kind of organization structure does Triple State have?
- Triple State Hardware Corporation is also a functional organization type of organization
structure. This is because the company is run by well trained professionals, who is said
to be the friends of Philip.

2. Considering that length of service is an advantage that leads to high products

knowledge among the sales team, can you think of some ways by which the
company can retain its sales staff?
- Allow employees to use their talents and skills. A motivated employee wants to
contribute to work areas outside of his or her specific job description. Begin by taking
the time to learn your employees' skills, talents, and past and current experience.
- Whatever the circumstances, never threaten an employee's job or income. Even if you
know layoffs are looming, it's a mistake to foreshadow this information with employees.
It makes them nervous no matter how you phrase or explain the information and your
best staff members will update their resumes.
- Make sure senior management knows that an employee exists. This is a common
complaint voiced during an exit interview. Even the president of a company needs to
take some time to meet with employees to learn about their talents, abilities, and skills.
- Make staff members feel appreciated. Frequently saying thank you for a job well done
goes a long way. And, monetary rewards, bonuses, and gifts make the thank you even
more significant. Raises tied to accomplishments and achievement will help you retain
staff probably more than any other action.
3. If you were to run Triple State, can you devise a plan of action that would resolve
its problems and not just bring it up back up to par, but also prevent these
problem from happening again? Elaborate you action plan

- Financial preparation is a better approach for the success of the business and is
essential. During the development process, you have to spend capital up front and the
financial benefit will take some time to be realized. You must carefully investigate the
sector you plan to enter into and avoid setting sights too big. Poor management is an
issue that often needs to be tackled, especially in the supply chain. During the
development process, the relationship with your vendors is likely to be under pressure.
Excessive stock, manufactured goods and other materials can be needed, so you need to
make sure you have processes in place to accommodate all of these. Via it you can
greatly reduce inadequate preparation, which is one of the key hurdles to the success of
an organization. It is appropriate to ensure that you improve your quality of customer
service and constantly interact with your clients. Also, it is important to closely monitor
your current workforce to ensure that their productivity is not diminished by your
development plan. You can consider which duties you should assign to other team
members to free up your resources to work on major issues. This can be done by
constantly speaking with them, making it clear what you want from them. This will help
attract current clients and workers when competing for new ones.

4. How would you address Philip’s need to resign and live a peaceful life?
- After how many years of giving half of his life to the company, I think it is a good idea to
focus more on his self, treat and live a peaceful life and I think he has all the means to
live in peace because of working for so long that he already saved enough money to
finance himself and his family.
