7. In recent years there have been a significant rise in the number of
woman entering the diplomatic services.
ii) In the unlikely event you are not selected for this job, would you
like to be diplomatic spouse and, why?
Diplomatic service is the body of diplomats and foreign policy officers maintained by the
government of a country to communicate with the governments of other countries.
Diplomatic personnel obtains diplomatic immunity when they are accredited to other
countries. Diplomatic services are often part of the larger civil service and sometimes a
constituent part of the foreign ministry. In recent years there have been a significant rise in
the number of woman entering the diplomatic services. The argumentative issue we had
going to discuss is in the unlikely event you are not selected as a diplomat, would you like to
be diplomatic spouse and, why?

Based on my opinion, I will not like to be a diplomatic spouse if I am not being

selected as a diplomat. First and foremost, the ongoing challenge for me was lining up some
gainful employment. Like a lot of diplomatic spouses, the options for formal employment are
limited due to visa restrictions. This means working in the local diplomatic mission, or for an
international organisation are usually the only options. Other than that, the diplomat spouses
who own work visa permits only allowed to work as part time job. According the sharing
experiences from diplomat spouses, they need to compete with many others who are also
seeking the opportunity and some of them got to the stage where didn’t find work, they
would have enrolled in a study course out of desperation for more intellectual activity. This is
not withstanding that after some seven years at university previously.

Other than that, the diplomats are not able to share all of the diplomatic immunity
with their spouses and families. Which meant diplomat spouses or families cannot owned all
of the special privileges that diplomat had during stay over the receiving state. The
diplomatic immunities according Vienna Convention Act 1966 such as remission of taxes,
charges, duties and fees under article 34 and article 36, the person of a diplomatic agent shall
be inviolable. the receiving state shall treat him with due respect and shall take all appropriate
steps to prevent any attack on his person, freedom or dignity under article 29, the diplomatic
bag shall not be opened or detained and may be entrusted to the captain of a commercial
aircraft scheduled to land at an authorized port of entry under article 27. But some of the
diplomatic immunities which also had shared with their spouses and family members such as
may not be arrested or detained, may not have their residences entered and searched, may not
be subpoenaed as witnesses and may not be prosecuted. From that we can know that being a
diplomat spouse has more restriction and difficulty toward career development compare with
a diplomat.
A diplomat is a person who is chosen in a specific position (such as an ambassador, or a
consul) to represent his country or nationality and represents the government of his country in
other countries that he go, who is chosen by the higher authorities. The diplomatic spouse is a
person accompanying the person who works as a diplomat in any country so the diplomatic
spouse should follow the diplomat everywhere. Therefore, I do not agree to be the diplomatic
spouse for several reasons, which is:

First of all, to find a best career, because usually our own countries may place limitations on
the species of work that we can do but sometimes the diplomatic spouse is not allowed to
work which led to be just a housewife without any work, career, and title of successful while
the diplomat partner is creating a best future to family but as a diplomatic spouse just to stay
at home, obedience to the partner, and the family income only from the partner. Secondly, To
find another major to work on it , because in fact that the major of diplomacy is divided into
two sides which is International business and International relations which is flexible to work
anywhere by the major of diplomacy such as in international companies. Beside that, it can
develop our knowledge and skills in different ways to get an experience in different fields.
Thirdly, To find ourselves in other job to find new skills to use and to develop our knowledge
in different fields such as if our major is diplomacy but we work on economic sectors it
means that we learn new things to get more experience with getting a better future. Also to
get links among the government and economic sectors such as the multi companies that work
for the government and civilians. Fourthly, To not feel lonely because when our partner go to
work we just will stay at home without any work or activities to do except cleaning house
which is get only three hours to do in a whole day. Sometimes, our own country is give as a
specific ways to work on it or they not allowed us to work. Beside that, it’s difficult to find
friends who has a same nationality or the same tradition like us which means that we facing a
difficult accepting the community. fifthly, To not face difficulty adjustment for accepting
new different society , new traditions with a different attitude of people , and for accepting
new kind of foods. Hence, it's difficult to face a different law or rules to follow it to stay on
that country such as Violations, fines, traffic rules.
