Health benefits of mangosteen  fruit.

 Delicious and juicy, mangosteen is one of the popular tropical fruits. It comprises of an
impressive list of essential nutrients which are required for normal growth and development
and overall nutritional well-being. It is moderately low in calories (63 calories per 100 g) and
contains no saturated fats or cholesterol. Nonetheless, it is rich in dietary fiber (100 g
provides about 13% of RDA). Mangosteen is good source of vitamin C and provides about
12% of RDA per 100 g. Vitamin-C is a powerful water soluble anti-oxidant. Consumption of
fruits rich in vitamin-C helps human body develop resistance against viral-flu and help
scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free-radicals. Fresh fruit is a moderate source of B-
complex vitamins such as thiamin, niacin and folates. These vitamins are acting as
cofactors the help body metabolize carbohydrates, protein, and fats.  It also contains a
very good amount of minerals like copper, manganese and magnesium. Potassium is an
important component of cell and body fluids and helps control heart rate, and blood
pressure, thus, it offers protection against stroke and coronary heart diseases. Mangosteen
peel contains xanthonoids, such as mangostin, and other phytochemicals. Mangosteen
effective for menstrual disorders, tuberculosis, urinary tract infections, eczema, diarrhea
etc.

Contraindications, negative side Effects and dangerous interactions of mangosteen fruit!

Interactions with Drugs.

Do not use Mangosteen or mangosteen containing foodsWith:

1. Aspirin.

2. Anticoagulant drugs, foods and herbs ( Melilotus Officinalis etc.).

3. Antiplatelet drugs and herbs . Vitamin E have anticoagulant effect, and that these might be

additive with aspirin, Anticoagulant and Antiplateletdrugs.

4. NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs )- prostaglandin -cyclooxygenase inhibitors.

Prostaglandins are a family of chemicals that are produced by the cells of the body and have

several important functions. They promote inflammation that is necessary for healing, but also

results in pain, and fever; support the blood clotting function of platelets; and protect the lining

of the stomach from the damaging effects of acid. Prostaglandins are produced within the body's

cells by the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). There are two COX enzymes, COX-1 and COX-2.

Both enzymes produce prostaglandins that promote inflammation, pain, and fever. However,

only COX-1 produces prostaglandins that support platelets and protect the stomach. Nonsteroidal

anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) block the COX enzymes and reduce prostaglandins

throughout the body. As a consequence, ongoing inflammation, pain, and fever are reduced.

Since the prostaglandins that protect the stomach and support platelets and blood clotting also are

reduced, NSAIDs can cause ulcers in the stomach and promote bleeding.
