let us read
“I AM A TEACHER” by John Wayne Schlatter.
I am a Teacher.
I was born the first moment that a question leaped from the mouth of a child.
Throughout the course of a day I have been called upon to be an actor, friend, nurse
and doctor, coach, finder of lost articles, money lender, taxi driver, psychologist,
substitute parent, salesman, politician and a keeper of the faith.
An architect knows that if he builds with care, his structure may stand for centuries.
A teacher knows that if he builds with love and truth, what he builds will last forever.
I am a warrior, daily doing battle against peer pressure, negativity, fear, conformity,
prejudice, ignorance and apathy: But I have great allies: Intelligence, Curiosity,
Parental Support, Individuality, Creativity, Faith, Love and Laughter all rush to my
banner with indomitable support.
And who do I have to thank for this wonderful life I am so fortunate to experience,
but you the public, the parents. For you have done me the great honor to entrust to
me your greatest contribution to eternity, your children.
And so I have a past that is rich in memories. I have a present that is challenging,
adventurous and fun because I am allowed to spend my days with the future.
I AM A TEACHER...AND I THANK GOD FOR IT EVERY SINGLE DAY!!
That was quite an emotional poem, isn’t it? Despite of the judgments,
criticisms and challenges faced alongside with our profession in this what we
considered the darkest part in the history of education system due to the COVID-19
pandemic, we continue to rise above those challenges, continue upholding our core,
and relentlessly fighting for our purpose – to make a difference into the lives of our
learners amidst this pandemic.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered for the World Teacher’s Day
Celebration with the theme: “TEACHERS: LEADING IN CRISIS, RE-IMAGINING THE
FUTURE.”
And so, to start with, let us sing the Philippine National Anthem, put ourselves
into the presence of our Almighty God by a prayer and sing to the beat of the
Zamboanga Sibugay March through Multimedia Presentation.
According to Ralph Nader, “A leader has the vision and conviction that a dream
can be achieved. He inspires the power and energy to get it done.” With this, may I
call the Public Schools’ District Supervisor and our very amazing School Principal of
the District of Malangas, Ma’am Meishel P. Batan for her Welcome Remarks.
Someone once said, “A teacher’s purpose is not to create students in his own
image, but to develop students who can create their own images.” To pay tribute for
the teachers, let us witness an Audio-Visual Presentation especially prepared by
Ma’am Argel C. Salazar.
Thank you, Ma’am Argel, for such a heart-warming tribute.
We are very blessed today for we have with us a man who has one thing in
common with us teachers, “whenever our learners stray from their values, we
become a preacher.” And he is exactly just like that. To formally introduce him to
you, may I call in Ma’am Gina B. Pamugas.
There is nothing so great a tribute you can give to someone than bestowing
the blessings of heaven upon him or her. At this juncture, our Guest Speaker, Rev.
Runebiel Bayron will offer a prayer for us, teachers.
Thank you so much, Rev. We greatly appreciate your presence today in the
most significant day of our lives as teachers. It is God’s will, indeed.
With that, please accept this simple certificate as a token of appreciation. May God
bless you more!
Many months ago, on the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we often hear
people say, “teachers are useless.” Admit it, at the back of your mind, you wanted to
shout at them that it isn’t true! And that they know nothing! Because in reality,
teachers do beyond what is expected of them - conquer their inhibitions and
confusions about the new-normal education set up, stretched their hand and heart
to bridge learning gaps and provide interventions while accomplishing all those
Reports that never seems to end, all for the learners, all for their passion towards
their profession. So today, let us take a moment to honor and recognize those
performing teachers who were being true to their duties in spite of the hardships.
Ladies and Gentlemen, here is Ma’am Benilda Paulin, to lead the Awarding of
Performing Teachers.
I would really want to talk more about being a teacher, but time forbids it
because as we all know, for teachers, time is very precious. Without further ado,
may we have Ma’am Annabel Patalinghug to give her closing remarks.
This celebration wouldn’t be possible without the grace and blessings of the
Lord bestowed upon us today. To officially close the program, let us have Ma’am
Elnora Romiscal to lead the Closing Prayer.
This celebration may have come to end but for us, teachers every day is
TEACHER’S DAY. I once read an essay and the author there goes, “The COVID-19
health emergency when sees in another dimension could be a blessing that gave us
an opportunity to rediscover the value of being grateful that we are a teacher – a
front liner that may not be battling the COVID 19, but constantly combatting and
continue eradicating the outbreak of illiteracy, a virus that hinders the hopes and
futures of young generations and a hindrance to nation’s development.”
