After this lesson, students will be able to identify the number that is one more than a
given number.

IV. Learning Experiences
A. Preparatory Drill
1. Drill: Match the number of M&Ms on the cut-out print numbers one greater
than the other.
2. Review: Let the students pick which set they want.
3. Why did you choose this set of number than the other set?
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation:
a. Show the drawing of a boy with two sets of gifts.
b. Tell the pupils: This is Paolo. On his birthday, he got two sets of gifts. He
said that he got more toy cars than balls.

c. Ask the students the following questions:


1. Who got gifts on his birthday? (Paulo got gifts on his birthday.)
2. How many sets of gifts did he get? (He got two sets of gifts.)
3. What are the sets of gifts that he got? (He got a set of toy cars and a set
of balls.)
4. What did Paulo say about his gifts? (He said that he got more toy cars
than balls.)
d. Post the problem below on the board. Read the problem aloud while the
pupils read with you softly.
- On his birthday, Paolo got two sets of gifts. He said that he got more
toy cars than balls. Is Paulo, right? How do you know?
e. Tell the pupils to work in pairs and to think of different ways to answer
the question.
2. Generalization: Make the children write the number that is one more than the
given number on their show me board.
1. The given number is 9. (The children should be able to write 10.)
2. The given number is 11. (The children should be able to write 12.)
3. The given number is 34. (The children should be able to write 35.)
4. The given number is 60. (The children should be able to write 61.)
5. The given number is 89. (The children should be able to write 90.)
