GOAL

The item catalogs are Key Flexfield (KFF) enabled and require that the Key Flexfields be created prior to creating catalogs.  In addition, catalogs are created for specific usage in
other Fusion Applications and require the catalog to be assigned to the functional area representing these applications.  For example, Purchasing, Inventory, Costing are examples
of Functional Areas that use the item catalogs.

This document describes how to setup the Key Flexfield for Item Catalogs and to create catalogs based on the KFF.

Solution provided in this document is specific to Item Catalogs and DOES NOT apply to Sales Catalogs (aka Product Groups).  Sales Catalogs can be defined using CRM setup
task: Manage Product Groups.

SOLUTION

A Key Flexfield is used in catalogs and categories and must be setup prior to creating catalogs or categories.   For catalogs, the key flexfield code “MCAT” is seeded, that is, MCAT
represents the registration of the Key Flexfield to the Oracle Fusion Product Management product and the catalog/category objects.  Only the flexfield code MCAT is used with
catalogs and categories.

Key Flexfield Setup and Deployment

Pre-requisite: Value set is required when defining a Key Flexfield segment. Task 'Manage Value Sets' can be used to define value sets before defining the KFF.

Create Catalog and Categories

A catalog and category is needed support the automatic assignment of a category to an item during Item Create.  If the catalog is to be assigned to a functional area such as
Purchasing, each functional area has specific rules for the catalog configuration.  More details about functional area catalog configurations can be found in Document 1488509.1.

To create categories, first a catalog must be created and then categories can be created within the context of a catalog.  The categories created can be shared across multiple
catalogs.
