Tier Level Requirements

The following pages present the consolidated view of Tier Level

Requirements. These requirements are a consolidation of the information
gathered from multiple sources, including information about what’s inside
TIA-942 and the Uptime Institute’s Tier standards, as well as others.
It is critical to understand that, while this information is correct, it is NOT a
replacement for the actual documents from these sources. The information
presented here can help you validate the Tier-Level claims of a Data Center
Operator, however, if you plan to BUILD a Data Center, you must obtain
copies of the actual specifications and engage with the organizations directly.
The following table presents some common attributes of the different Tier
Data Centers, as observed by the Uptime Institute. While these are the
observations, they really don’t completely represent what’s being built and
installed today. For example, few, if any, Data Centers are being built to a
per cabinet power restriction of 4kW today. Expect this to be a much higher
power density. Also, expect higher levels of staffing and higher availability
than these tables represent.
