ANSWER FOR INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT

1) Do you think Digi is effective in implementing its corporate social responsibility to the
community and environment? Find more CSR activities done by Digi in the internet to
support your answer?.

In my opinion, I think Digi is effective in implementing its corporate social responsibility to

the community and environment. Other than CSR activities listed above, Digi also runs The
Deep Green Challenge for Change (“C4C”). C4C reaches out to the Malaysian youth from
participating local universities to discover viable energy solutions with the winners getting
the opportunity for their solutions to be potentially incubated, developed and commercialised
by Digi and their partners. In partnership with community group PACOS (Partners of
Community Organisations) Digi have invested in building a micro-hydroelectric system in
Lumpagas, a 35 household under-served community in Pensiangan, Sabah. This community
only has access to limited electricity generated through the use of diesel generators. The
supply of electricity will reduce the dependency on diesel generators and trees as firewood
for the household, thus offsetting the trend of open burning and the emission of greenhouse
gases and toxic pollutants that contribute to the climatic changes in the region and the poor
health of the communities. Furthermore, the proposed project has the potential of educating,
motivating and committing the villagers to the preservation of the forests and the
conservation of the biodiversity within the vicinity of the village.

Another community programme to bring understanding of the impact of climate change

to communities across Malaysia is the Mangrove Treasures of Kuala Selangor in partnership
with Malaysian Nature Society, to educate school children from 6 local schools on the need
for conservation of our natural resources.

This can be proven in 2009, when Digi was awarded the Corporate Responsibility Award
in the Enviroment Category.
2) How does Digi benefit from their CSR activities?

Digi will be known because of their CSR activities, as DiGi intends to be the catalyst for
change and to leave a lasting legacy. It will help Digi stay competitive over time and
become a great company, one that makes a difference and is able to initiate widespread
change across the country.

3) Find one competitor for Digi and compare their CSR activities. Which company do you
think is more outstanding in their corporate social responsibilities ?

Maxis is one of the competitors for Digi. One of CSR activities done by Digi is The
DeepGreen Challenge for Change (“C4C”). This activity become well known and has
attracted PACOS in partnership that lead Digi invested in building a micro-hydroelectric
system in Lumpagas, a 35 household under-served community in Pensiangan, Sabah. The
proposed project has the potential of educating, motivating and committing the villagers
to the preservation of the forests and the conservation of the biodiversity within the
vicinity of the village.

While Maxis did the “Bridging the Digital Divide”. Maxis firmly believe that ICT
should be available to everyone. Even to those who might find it out of reach. It has
targeted to take ICT education and infrastructure straight to rural communities. The
Maxis Cyberkids Programme was introduced with the aim of promoting the usage of ICT
to children and empowering them with skills to explore, share and propagate the
knowledge within their community. The programme also aimed to increase the levels of
self-confidence among the students while at the same time enhancing their leadership
qualities.  Maxis Cyberkids Programme which is included the progressive of the
following activities which are Cyberkids Camp, Cyberkids Challenge and Cyberkids
Portal. These activities are based on a “train-the-trainer” concept to enable participants to
effectively use computers and internet. This camp actually is let the participants share
their knowledge from what they learn from their school and communities.

As you can see, there is a big gap in these two tele communications. The activities
carried out by Digi are even greater with the coupling of PACOS who are able to give
better results in this CSR activity where they invested in building a micro-hydroelectric
which cost a lot compared to Maxis which they stand on their own and not collab with
others . As a result, their CSR activities is focused on smaller scope.

I think Digi is better than Maxis in terms of CSR activities they have been carried out.
